How about best remake (correct term for GTA V on PS4/One?, Halo MCC and Last of US)? I am sure there are others that came out for 360 and PS3 too.

They are technically "Remasters" and it is a pretty thick category this year with GTA, Last of Us, Halo, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy X, and the forthcoming Kingdom Hearts HD remix.

The best games of the year weren't played by anyone because they're Wii U exclusives.

Mario Kart 8 is a ton of fun and the best of the franchise.

Bayonetta 2 is a perfect action game and one of the best reviewed games of the year.

Played them both and I totally agree about Bayonetta 2. Mario Kart is quite good, but really it is more Mario Kart. Super Smash on Wii U is where it is at.

From the few responses so far it looks like there isn't really a reason to differentiate between best new-gen and old-gen so we'll just have an all-encompassing best game poll.
