could piggy back on the desktop music thread but didn't get any response. 2 probs with gogle play:
-skips between tracks
-raise volume past a certain threshold brings up a dialogue box warning about my eardrums
what ya'll use? not talking about streaming btw, i got my music on micro sd.

I use PlayerPro. It's not free, but it's cheap enough and there's a trial version. It has all of the features I need, including things like gapless playback, it looks good and it has various widgets you can place on your home screen.
PowerAmp is another popular one. Back when I tried it, it was missing the option to view by album artist, so you had to view by artist and that kinda fucked things up if you had compilation albums, but that was a loooong time ago so I'm sure that'll have been sorted by now. It has a lot of features and options, so if you like to tinker and get things set up just how you like them, it's worth a look.

how about you go the classical route and try out AIMP? There's an Android version right? I just don't care for bells and whistles these days anymore. AIMP is not a memory hog, loads up instantly, is not a distraction ... I've been using it for so long now.

Re: mobile music apps
thanks for a recommendations sigma. i tried both and i like poweramp a lil better. they don't have that annoying warning before turning up to max volume. they have better bluetooth connectivity but not perfect. occasionally it'll still skip but i think that's a problem with the galaxy s4 mini (low processing power).
tried AIMP but... it basically doesn't do anything
