Need a tip for Photoshop

I dunno why its doing what its doing. :-x

Usually, when I use the stroke command (no ) I get a smooth effect around whatever I selected.

now for some reason, when I use it around this ratarised wording I created, it comes out REALLY jagged and rough. My resolution was set high enough and I dunno what I'm doing wrong.

Any help is apreciated.

click the wand selection tool outside of the letter, then stroke.
