::::::OFFICIAL XBOX 360 THREAD::::::

Post by Smooth Lou »

I Figured we should start an official thread for the new XBox before tomorrow's unveiling so we don't get 15 of the same threads (even though this is the 3rd or 4th XBox thread on this page). Put all XBox related info in this thread, and all will be well with the universe.

Launch Date Revealed
MTV has accidentally revealed the launch month of the Xbox 360. The On-Air schedule featured in MTV.com has the following description:

This special highlights the exciting new generation of XBOX. Packages include: Tours of the design labs Interviews with the designers Behind-the-scenes and inside scoop Never-before-seen footage of new videogames. Trailers of the newest games that are due out in November for the new XBOX. The next generation will be revealed at an event at the Avalon club in LA, hosted by Elijah Wood and featuring performances by The Killers and Snow Patrol.

This follows Bill Gates' announcement at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers annual meeting that the cоnsоle will indeed ship later this year.

Bill Gates Talks Xbox 360
Speaking to the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in Seattle, Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates revealed that the next-generation Xbox will ship later this year and it will be more of a digital entertainment hub than its predecessor, making it even more of a PC hybrid than ever.

Gates told the journalists gathered at the annual meeting that Xbox 360's user interface will be similar to that of the company's Media Center edition of Windows XP.

"If you're used to that menu, when you use Xenon you'll see a menu a lot like that that lets you get photos, TV, music and all those different things."

Next Generation Console War

Gates also talked about the company

I was about to do the same thing. PA is good for us lazy bastards. we should make similar stickies after E3 for Revolution and PS3, if there is enough info given on them.

I'm sure there will be tons of info on both, or at the very least, 3rd party next-gen developers looking for distro.

It should be a great time to be a gamer, and it's gonna be A LOT of info in a very short amount of time.

I'm really liking all the features I'm seeing.

On top of that, it is great possible news that they are following Nintendo's lead in offering a free online gaming network. I'm just curious as to how free it is. I'm assuming that a gold membership = you are paying to play during the weekdays/nights?

And since silver doesn't have skill level matchmaking...what do they base it on?

Forgive me,

but could someone fill me in on the exact time MTV will do its unveiling? I'm sure most of what will be shown will be old news to many people but I haven't been following along enough with my next-gen news as befits my character lately; Microsofts's MediaCenter being one thing I'm wholly unfamiliar with. So, what time should I set my DVR to record?

Microsoft to Unveil Universal Gaming Controller at E3
For the first time, at this year's E3 Microsoft will reveal a prototype of the universal gaming controller. Designed for use on Windows-based PCs and the Xbox 360, the controller will allow gamers to enjoy a consistent playing experience across Microsoft's gaming platforms.

"The universal gaming controller will provide a Windows controller standard that helps game developers bring different genres -- such as racing, sports and action/adventure -- to the Windows platform more easily," said Chris Donahue, group manager of Windows Graphics and Gaming Technologies at Microsoft. "Gamers will have more playing options with a familiar, versatile and well-designed gamepad-style controller."

What the fuck. Ghost Recon 3 looks great. Check out the normal mapping on the back of that helmet, and all the shit going on in the HUD.

those screens are dropdead gorgeous. the controller looks like something mad kats put together thouhg. they could of thought of something better imo.

at least it's not as big as when xbox first came out, i give them that.

without a doubt I think the console wars are going to get bigger and bigger. I can't imagine the price range for a console though. With all these new features and shit it's gonna be like buying a computer.

Just saw the MTV show, they didn't reveal much. It was cool seeing Perfect Dark Zero, but it wasn't incredibly impressive as far as graphics.

That Perfect Dark shit had me fucking psyched. That was the game I bought my Gamecube for specifically, then when MS bought Rare I sold my GC and bought a Box in hopes of PD Zero. Now I have to buy a 360, even though I was planning to already. I wish I could play Zero right now...

My take on the MTV XBox 360 Special:

1. Elijah Wood hasn't aged a day since he stared along side Macaulay Culkin in "The Good Son"

2. The Live Marketplace seems rather interesting

3. The graphics for Madden and Need for Speed looked :ohsh:

4. The graphics for Tony Hawk and Perfect Dark Zero looked :meh:

5. The downloadable content is going to play a huge part in the 360

6. I'll pass on it...I'm waiting for the PS3.
