wtf? lol
What is hard to understand about that? Belly of the Beast is a classic to me while i cant stand West Side Story but i know that West Side Story is a classic to the general public and critics and Belly of the Beast is not.
I'm really suprised that more people aren't co-signing L.A. Confidential. It's a great film on every level which was well received by the public and critics alike. And there's no way a film Rushmore doesn't go down a classic...it's a 90s Annie Hall or Manhattan.
LA Confidentials problem is not enough people have seen it. If it was on tv as much as say Shawshank it would be a classic as it is a much better movie. Rushmore is pretentious shit and I believe the Wes Anderson/self indulgent bullshit movement backlash is on.
Manhattan and Annie Hall are pretentious as shit as well...but that doesn't mean they aren't regarded as classics by a lot of people.
what a retarded question, especially without designating any criteria. what would actually constitute a classic? some of the movies named will be getting constant replay from the average joe 10 years from now without ever being placed on any kind of top critical position (fight club, memento), while some others will be all over top list but long forgotten by the general public (ice storm). which one of these categories should be considered as the 'real deal' indicator? only 3 of those maybe will actually make the cut if both sides are taken into consideration

But imho, the concept of "classic" as a non-personalized, socially agreed upon status symbol for art= teh ghey
the rest have either a lot of cult appeal and/or a large popular following, but i would not call any of them classic in the sence that for example goodfellas is a classic

I agree with everything you said except that you made an exception for Trainspotting, which is a cult movie like the rest of them.

It's pretty simple really drizzle. Some movies from the 90s, like Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Unforgiven, Fargo, and Schindler's List, are already generally regarded as "classics." I'm asking which one of the movies that I listed will be placed alongside them in years to come.

I agree for the most part but think 25th hour has a good chance to go down as a classic and seven has an outside chance.
