Sci fi that is part William Gibson, part Richard Preston. Pretty much about the aftermath of the world after the oil runs out and the famines begin.

I haven't read "War" yet but will likely pick that book up next based on his interviews on the Daily Show, Bill Maher, and this excellent C-SPAN interview:

If you're interested in a sincere behind the scenes look at the experiences of our special forces in Afghanistan, i think you'll enjoy the interview.

"Strip" was a solid and enjoyable read. Good character development across the board, well written action sequences, and humorous throughout. Worth a lazy summer read

Just finished:

Quirky humor but a pretty fun read and somewhat similar in theme to Joe Hill's "Horns" - if you enjoyed that I think you could probably get into this. Felt it dragged a little towards the end as the reveal seemed pretty apparent about 1/2 way through the book.

Anyone else read the new Chuck Phahahahahdlendudiuk? Far from his best, close to his worse. Very predictable and the style was pretty annoying and the ending was hilariously cheese, but I enjoyed it.

Yep - just finished it last week. A pretty quick read but far and away the best book I've read this year. I've been singing its praise to anyone who'll listen at work. Really looking forward to his documentary "Restrepo" which i imagine will compliment the book nicely.

Finshed Vonnegut's Mother Night just before that which was a little "meh" to me - sorry if that is blasphemous to anyone.

I'm reading Centurion by Simon Scarrow at the moment. Only 20-30 pages in so far and he doesn't mess around - pours the action on early and the opening battle is setting the pace nicely.

Anyone read this?

I'm a fan of big sprawling epic stories but vampires are kind of played out. Wondering if it's worth the time investment (it's supposedly over 1000 pages).

if you've already gone through the usual canon of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and Ubik, you could try Valis and Divine Invasion

don't be too cool for school man, there's a reason why those two are held in such high regard.

As far as Dick goes, Dr. Bloodmoney would be my "sleeper pick". Can't go wrong with the obvious classics though.

Just finished reading this for the third time. I'm a huge faggot fanboy for all of DFW's nonfiction (Consider the Lobster, this one, all the short non-collected pieces that have been collected online by his fans). That said, I can't get through his fiction. It does absolutely nothing for me.

For all the movie buffs in CYE, the profile piece/essay on David Lynch in here (much extended and much better from the original Premier magazine piece) is an awesome, awesome read.
