Looking great so far. If they bring Julie Benz back as the embodiment of Dexter's "Dark Passenger" I hope they make her a lot less annoying. Also, she can engage in fisticuffs with Pops in the perpetual light his ghost is always in and shit. I will fall on the floor laughing if this happens.

Season 3 is honestly the best season.

As for the trailer, the show looks like it's going exactly where I don't want it to go. However, the head-writer for seasons 2 and 4 (screenwriter for the Twilight movies) I don't believe is supposed to be a part of this run so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Also Julie Benz in a tremendously talented actress and her character was supposed to be gradually more and more annoying with the past few seasons. She was supposed to embody the ultimate in neediness from every ex-girlfriend aspect imaginable. Think about it, she got you to demand the death of a rape victim mother of three. Talent, yo.

This looks really promising also, and might make for a great season.

Ideally, the show ends in the season after this one with Dexter getting caught.

Julia Stiles is the guest-star this season, which could be fine if she just becomes the nanny and is involved in the suspicions around Dexter (if Dexter has to kill her to keep what's left of his secret -- further pushing him to the point of no return), and could be HORRIBLE if she becomes a reboot of Lila from season 2.

IMO as this decision goes, so goes the season.

I thought I read that she is gonna be the new potential love interest or something to that effect. Who knows though, either way it's gonna be a stretch.

She's going to teach Dexter how to dance.

I think I've read that she's not going to be a love interest, but will be (paraphrasing) "physically and emotionally damaged."

I don't think is a good sign. The Dexter-comes-across-a-new-person-with-a-similar-set-of-problems-each-season construction of the storyline is really boring at this point. The way to advance the plot, imo, is to have Dexter come across people who are increasingly less damaged, but he's further along in his descent and is less capable of realizing it. Rita gets wrapped up and he's not ENTIRELY responsible, but now someone else he knows gets wrapped up in it and suffers their fate by his very own hand.
That's interesting. That's character development. We are well on our way down the path of him no longer being able to separate his two lives. At this point another spin around the wheel of Dexter making a (relatively) easy moral decision by luckily becoming close to another psychotic who he has to off is basically just stalling out in the hopes of a longer run. We've seen it for the past three seasons in a row.

So, how do we feel?

Anyone a bit concerned we're getting something of a "greatest hits" rehash of the the past four seasons' storylines?

I really liked this series up until mid-season 4. I will be interested to see what happens. Even if it sucks, I'm invested now...

Was anyone else disturbed with how skinny the actor who plays Quinn is? Did he forget to eat between seasons or what?

The only thing I DO like is that Dexter's alibi is that he was the witness at Batista and LaGuardia's wedding. Should be interesting to see how they resolve that.

Pretty let down they brought Harry back. Having Dexter needing to survive without him would have been an interesting avenue to go down.

My BIGGEST problem with the show (and what I think will be remembered as the shark-jumping moment) is how Dexter killed an innocent in season 4 and it was hardly mentioned. It should have shattered everything he held together and thrown him completely off the code. Now it makes all his "Rita was innocent, I made an innocent person die" make no sense. All the breakthroughs he seemed to have emotionally the past 4 seasons were gone too.

Otherwise it looked like they were trying to rehash the past four seasons in one season. Deb-Quinn is lame, Quinn as the new Doakes is lame, returning to a 'killer of the week' theme is lame and having a cult as the overarching villain threatens to bring the show dangerously close to the awful, awful world of the books where the dark passenger is something supernatural.

Might I add that Harrison is the finest infant actor I've seen in quite some time. most believable baby on TV right now.

Episode was weak, but the scene where Dexter tells Rita's kids about her death while wearing Mickey Mouse ears was great.

Episode had its moments but was very meh overall. I have a feeling that I will be recording these and watching them in chunks this year, which feels disappointing.

They should have just stuck with the storylines from the novels.
