Chipping in my $.02 late, was out of town all week.
Glad to see this finally happening, should be a real fun tournament.

A couple that I don't think have been mentioned yet:

Beach Red (basically the spiritual predecessor to The Thin Red Line)
Verboten! (Sam Fuller's other WWII movie)
Forbidden Games
Lifeboat (can't leave out the god Hitchcock)
Defiance
Sahara
Anzio
The Hill

Cosign all of these that have been mentioned:
Cross of Iron
Soldier of Orange
Dirty Dozen
Stalingrad (really impressed that this was mentioned by so many people)
Downfall
Grave of the Fireflies
The Great Escape
Das Boot
Inglourious Basterds
Inglorious Bastards
Black Book
Patton
Schindler's List
Stalag 17
Bridge on the River Kwai
The Guns of Navarone
Army of Shadows
Burmese Harp
The Big Red One
The Longest Day
Empire of the Sun
Battle of the Bulge
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Man Hunt
Letters from Iwo Jima
Hell is for Heroes
A Bridge Too Far
Kelly's Heroes
Where Eagles Dare
Europa
Hell in the Pacific

aleph, Steel Helmet takes place during the Korean War.

Just a quick heads up. Trying to wrap up votes by the end of week hopefully and get this thing rolling.

If you want to nominate a movie, it's not too late.

Couple of worthy movies not mentioned yet, The Enemy Below and Von Ryan's Express.

Since this tourney was coming up, I finally caught up with a couple WW2 movies I had sitting in my queue, and both are near-perfect films and get my full support

Here's a rough draft of nominations that are relatively safe from exclusion so far. These were all movies that got a co-sign from others or just shit added by me to balance things out.

Cross of Iron
Soldier of Orange
Dirty Dozen
Stalingrad
Downfall
To Hell And Back
The Train
They Were Expendable
The Heroes Of Telemark
Ice Cold In Alex
Grave of the Fireflies
The Great Escape
Destination Tokyo
Sophie Scholl
Das Boot
Inglourious Basterds
Inglorious Bastards
Black Book
Patton
Schindler's List
Stalag 17
Hell Is For Heroes
Bridge on the River Kwai
The Guns of Navarone
Army of Shadows
Burmese Harp
The Big Red One
Come And See
The Longest Day
Empire of the Sun
Saving Private Ryan
Battle of the Bulge
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Man Hunt
Letters from Iwo Jima
Hell is for Heroes
A Bridge Too Far
Kelly's Heroes
Where Eagles Dare
Europa
Hell in the Pacific
Beach Red
Verboten!
Forbidden Games
Lifeboat
Defiance
Sahara
Anzio
The Hill
Life Is Beutiful
Enemy At The Gates
Battle of the Bulge
Manhunt
Stalag 17
Objective, Burma!
Judgment At Nuremberg
They Were Expendable
Sands Of Iwa Jima
Triple Cross
Eye Of The Needle
The Eagle Has Landed
Memphis Belle

Locking this thread on Sunday to get the tournie underway on Monday. Not too late to get a nomination in. No more espionage, resistance, pow or civilian perspective movies though, we've kind of over done it there. Naval or airforce is definitely welcome.

I have learned much from this thread. Mostly that I have A LOT of films to watch.

That's the basic idea, it's a pretty expansive genre.

I'm gonna try and find suitable Youtube links of trailers or scenes from the nominated movies during the tournie and hopefully some folks might want to check some of these movies out.

Anyway, locking this thread later on today.

Did anyone see The Story of G.I. Joe in full? I can't nominate it as one of the best since I saw only the first half hour a long ass time ago (meaning I didn't really see it), but maybe someone can vouch for it.

Really excited for this tournament and to start watching the movies in it. War movies are severely underrepresented in the list of movies I've watched but I love them. Out of that list I've seen inglorious bastards, saving private ryan and I saw where eagles dare when I was like 8.
