Picked up 2 more today, but this time from MovieStop, which carries new/used DVD/BD's. They're having a Facebook sale where all used items are 40% off plus an additional 10% off if you're a member, which I am.

They always have a full stock of Criterion titles, but I rarely see any used ones, other than Chasing Amy, Benjamin Buttons, Tenenbaums, and Life Aquatic.

Today I found and bought the 2 disc sets of Ikiru ($5.00) and The Killers ($7.00). Both were in great condition.

criterion posted this on twitter friday.

No one's really sure what it is other than that its obviously another samurai film.
I doubt its one of Kurosawa's since we're already probably getting Stray Dog & Drunken Angel this year.
Maybe its one or all of the Hideo Gosha films that they have the rights to.
Some people think it might be Kwaidan.
Personally hoping its a rerelease of Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy.
I feel like it could be a kurosawa if that's one of his storyboards
they're typically painterly in that fashion
ran maybe, but that's out of print on the dvd side so who knows
hidden fortress on bluray maybe

Its definitely not Ran, studiocanal has the rights and put it out on Bluray last year.
Hidden Fortress is a definite possibility. Although I don't think its one of AK's storyboards, criterion almost always uses original cover art.

Ikiru and The Killers for those prices are steals. I've been holding out on Ikiru, love the movie but think its too big of a title for them not to rerelease on blu eventually. I don't know about the Killers though since I'm pretty sure the Lee Marvin one was shot on video so bluray might not make sense for that one.

I ended up going back to B&N yesterday and picked up some more.
Island of Lost Souls
3 Women
Kuroneko
Identification of a Woman
Ride With The Devil
and.......Salo.
With coupons and discount, $97 total.

Ran into a cute girl I know as I was leaving the store. Didn't realize til I got out to my truck that the clerk had stuck Salo on the outside of the clear plastic bag. Girl had no idea that she was flirting with a guy with visible scat porn in the middle of Barnes & Noble.

Anyways, watched Kuroneko last night, really awesome. I'll do a review in the movie thread when I'm not feeling lazy.

Three Outlaw Samurai will be significantly cheaper due to lack of supplements. Looks like it only comes with a booklet.

Completely fine with it only getting a booklet and coming out at the cheaper price point. They've done this with a few titles before, Identification of a Woman and Jimi Plays Monterey for example.
I thought they were only going to put the Gosha films they have rights to out on dvd in an eclipse set, getting them on blu is more than enough for me. Plus I rarely find time to get into a lot of the extras anyways unless its one of my favorite films, most of the time I'd rather spend my time watching another movie.

Nice. Is this the first time Criterion has used the original poster art as a cover?

agree about the extras. i would've preferred an eclipse set for the whole bundle of their goshas though

So anyways, Looks like Amazon made a mistake and listed the pre-orders for the blurays of World on a Wire and Anatomy of a Murder at only $16.99.

Get 'em before they fix it.

Annoying that they don't have the older editions available to add to your collection, for some of the titles like the Fullers and Rules of the Game I had to choose the newer one that I don't have.

Lean boxset looks cool and Letter Never Sent sounds awesome.
Them redoing Night to Remember gives light to my theory that they are knocking out all the low-numbered editions in the collection and that they are finally going to get to the Samurai Trilogy soon.

General consensus is that its a screengrab from Michael Mann's Thief, which has been rumored to be coming for a couple years.
I have a huuuuuuge boner right now.
The existing dvd is non-anamorphic and looks like shit, this is going to look amazing on blu-ray.

:icedit:
Nevermind it's Winter Solstice.

April. Pretty happy to see Hal Ashby join the collection, H&M was one of the more obvious NYE drawing hints.

Yup. Apparently criterion gave a bunch of people who set up MyCriterion accounts $10 credits as well. Pretty bummed I didn't get one.

Think I'm only going to pick up 2-3 titles, I have barely touched all the ones I bought in the B&N sales. Definitely getting 3 Outlaw Samurai and Tokyo Drifter though.

FYI, I emailed criterion an hour ago trying to grovel and kiss ass to get the $10 credit, just got a reply back saying that they are going to credit my account.
Boner.
