General off impression has been that people generally like Talladega, but massively underrate Step Brothers. Really don't see anything not to like about either of them (with SB being the clear front runner just b/c it's so much darker, and Adam Scott, Steenburgen, and Richard Jenkins >>>>>>> Baron Cohen, Amy Adams and other blond lady).
Yeah, but people on also champion that piece of shit "walk Hard" so you never know 'round these parts.
Personally, I HATED Talledega when i saw it. Since then, I've grown to not so much hate it as not be mad at it. It's mediocre with some funny parts.
Where as Stepbrothers is fucking hilarious all the way through.

"21 Jump Street" was a fucking riot
Ice Cube at his near best, comedically. He's ready to do another "Friday". "Don't do it, man. Keep that dirty dick in yo' pants!" and "When I say 'shut the fuck up!', I'm talking to YOU!"
Jonah Hill is a Hollywood darling now. He wrote and acted in one of 2012's best buddy/cop/action pics, and nearly was perfect in his spoofing the rehash trend of modern Hollywood. The right amount of tribute and creativity made for a rollicking good time at the movies. The whole theater was laughing.
even James Franco's little brother did a great job in it. Dude totally looks like his big brother.
TOTALLY want that drug "HFS" to exist
holy fucking shit, this movie was funny.
GOD DAMN ROB "Bobbitt" RIGGLE, LOLOL
I loved when the trucks didn't blow up, especially the one with gas and oil so awesome how they fucked with action movie cliches

I think you can learn everything you need to know about Step Brothers from two of the negative reviews of it:EMCEE DARTH MALEK wrote: haven't seen step bros but seems like i should.
Roger Ebert wrote:When did comedies get so mean? Step Brothers has a premise that might have produced a good time at the movies, but when I left, I felt a little unclean.
They think these things are negatives, and are IMO, both kinda missing the point.SF Chronicle Review wrote:Reilly jumps into his role with the zeal of a Method actor -- no fear about sporting tiny underroos for the bulk of his screen time -- but he sometimes comes off as more scary than funny.
It's so broad in its comedy that I can understand how someone might overlook that the flick is actually dark as fuck. It's the closest we've gotten to a real big budget black comedy in at least a decade, imo.

i love walk hard too, fuck anybody who didn't laugh at 'I wonder if your songs will still be shit when I'm sixty-four'perfectprism wrote:People seeing Step Brothers as a dark comedy are looking too hard imo
And fuck any Walk Hard hate.
but you're not looking hard enough at Step Brothers. Da Gawd White Ice broke it down very well - the movie can be easily interpreted as very broad commentary on a general trend of arrested adolescence among american males. The fact that a movie about 40+ yo men still living with their parents and acting like 12 year olds can resonate with reality on any level AT ALL is kinda bleak

I understand that walk hard went too far in trying to specifically spoof every single thing about Walk The Line, but it's literally unfathomable to me that you can't at least appreciate the Beatles scene or the record company jews or that rapper sampling Dewey's song
like do you, as a PFAC-er, not love Lil' Nutzzak

There were maybe three chuckles for me in it...but there were about 50 eye rolls. The movie would take a joke with a pretty weak premise and do it over and over again. Like a bad SNL skit. To me, that's the whole movie...Halfway between a bad SNL skit and one of those later version "Scary Movie" parodies.drizzle wrote:I understand that walk hard went too far in trying to specifically spoof every single thing about Walk The Line, but it's literally unfathomable to me that you can't at least appreciate the Beatles scene or the record company jews or that rapper sampling Dewey's song
I did laugh at the Beatles scene though...I'll give you that.

the song parodies to me redeemed the overdone jokes
the bob dylan parody and the prog rock angel dust ones were so incredibly on point, the others are not too far off either. you're right, as a character Dewey Cox is something better suited to SNL sketches, but they used that character to spoof certain eras of rock really well imo and that's why i like it
fwiw they also made some pretty good jabs at how grotesquely overwrought musician biopics have become since the doors, that's gotta count for something too

You obviously haven't seen Everything Must Go.perfectprism wrote:double...umm
I'd rather see Ferrell in dramedy roles from now on, he could make some classic "Apartment" type shit for the new age
You can also count me in the Walk Hard fan club. It doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Stepbrothers but its an amusing distraction. Tim Meadows cameos are great as well.

^^ the same fagz that hate on walk hard hate on the ladies man too in my experience. it's kinda tragic yo, and probably motivated by deeply rooted racialist impulses

Ladies man>>>>>>>>>>>>Walk Hard
But LOL at Tim Meadows not being completely average in every way. he's a black Jimmy Fallon minus the impressions.
Also, perhaps the enjoyment of Walk hard is weed thing? That's the only thing I can imagine that makes it decent.

can't lie, the weed def helps. my comedy tastes would be infinitely smaller and far more critical if i didn't watch every comedy blasted out of my mind

This.
Walk Hard fucking blows but from the Beatles to the Black Sheep song/Van Dyke Parks and Brian Wilson parody it was fucking great.
Also double at them cutting what would have been one of the funnier scenes and songs in the movie b/c it was

can't say that i hate him, cause asides from hearing his stupid fucking name once or twice before, i had no idea who he was. honestly thought he was volchunk from the o.c. but i guess not. would have been fine w/ hating him, but dude was super duper funny in this, probably moreso than jonah.Trademark wrote:Non stop laughs. walk hard was funny but i didn't care to watch it again. it's just a parody of the johnny cash movie (with some other references obviously). not nearly as interesting as stepbrothers
i loved stepbrothers. do NOT file me in the category of johnny come lately's and blockhead/popeye cosigners. i bought the blu-ray soon as it came out and have watched it numerous times...in fact for a short while my sig here was the scene of reilly fucking bobby newport's campaign manager in the dining room in front of everyone
