Hope this is the last season. Seems like they're recapturing some of the energy from the first three seasons -- which is good. I remember being on the edge of my seat at the end of every episode, back in those days.

The nosedive the show took last year confirmed for me that "Dexter" will never be a show about character growth or venturing into new territory, but rather a program obsessed with its own status-quo whose annual end-game it to his the reset button by the season finale.

After Season 4 (outside of Lithgow) pissed away what should have been milestones that changed the show forever (Dexter killing an innocent, Rita's death) the first half of season 5 being awful and the second half of season 6 being some of the worst televison aired last season (from the end of "Nebraska" onward, it's wretched) they've finally lost me as a viewer.

If I hear next season is awesome AFTER the finale, then I'll watch again. Until that point, I'm sitting this one out. Not even going to watch the trailer as to not get tempted to get fooled again.

The Laguerta monologue at the end of last season's finale is what finally did me in. I just can't, in good conscious, keep going back to this show that repeatedly makes me regret investing in it when nothing ever comes from it.

Yeah as far as I'm concerned this HAS to be the last season. Deb has found out, and that has to be the last loose end IMO.

The show was crap for the last two seasons, but the last one was laughably bad. I read somewhere that some of the writing team from the early seasons left but that doesn't explain the complete drop in quality. It's like a parody of itself.

Eh, for everything that's kind of cool in the books, we get:

- the "dark passenger" actually being some ancient spirit

- Dexter attempting to teach Rita's kids to follow in his footsteps as killers

- an emphasis on Dexter just being a regular guy who happens to be haunted by the need to kill people

As bad as the show's gotten, I think it's still better off leaving the books alone.

Damn good start to the season. I'm glad they flashed back to where Dexter's brother almost killed Deb. It made her remember that he saved her life in the midst of that shit. Can't wait for the next episode.

you didn't miss much.... if you start at the beginning of this season the "previously on dexter" should bring you up to speed. last season was horrendous

Nah. The first ep of this season was good, but from a plot perspective you could even skip it and not have a problem.

Was pretty excited about this season after the last episode, until I learned there is another season after this. Getting ready to drag myself through another season but I will give them the benefit of the doubt after surprising me last ep.

I audibly laughed at the new black cop's death. Dexter's schizophrenia with characters is fucking hilarious. I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the whole Dexter stalker subplot within the next 6-7 episodes.
