CYE Consensus

Post by Spartan »

I honestly didn't know it would be this many questions.

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?
How often a year do you buy conventional books?
Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?
Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?
Do you read comic books?
Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?
Do you read while in the bathroom?

How many TV's do you have in your home?
Do you own a 3D TV?
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored?

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?

It's all about directors. Don't care for actors that much. I am very openminded when it comes to genres. It matters to me where movies are from though.

A.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?

Yes. That is what my TV for. That and DVD's.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it? Shamefully haven't read many books in recent years. Last one was The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and it was awful. Currently rereading Nightmare Movies by Kim Newman.
How often a year do you buy conventional books? Perhaps one a year, it depends if I'm going on vacation or not.
Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about? No, never.
Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person? Yes and it was on Aristotle Onassis.
Do you read comic books? I kind of gave up on them, but I might buy the odd collected trade paper back. Eager to read Dredd's Day of Chaos.
Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle? No, I just don't get their appeal.
Do you read while in the bathroom? Never done this

How many TV's do you have in your home? 4
Do you own a 3D TV? Nope and I don't think I'll ever buy one.
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV? Perhaps around 16-17 hours worth of TV.
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic? Definitely younger, other than the news a lot seems to be aimed at teenaged girls.
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be? The League of Gentlemen.
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they? Briefly watched this year's Celebrity Big Brother, only for Georgia Salpa however, otherwise never.
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored? Yes, recently it's been Spartacus.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers? No, i find trailers can be very misleading in general. They don't spoil a movie for me.
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year? Less and less nowadays. Perhaps two or three times a year and if they're screened near me. It's been four times this year.
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie? There are only a few film critics who I respect but they've never swayed me into catching a movie based on their opinions.
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company? These days, I would rather go alone.
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)? Yes, it was Submarine.
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)? Yes, recently it was Dredd
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre? Mainly, it's C.
If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day? A.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment? After BR/3D BR, I think it's a download only future, despite 8K TVs near the end of the decade.
Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)? Nowadays, at home. Multiplexes lack soul.
Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV? Very rarely DL but I can't sit behind a monitor watching a film so I watch it via a TV.

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?

On January 1st I made a vow to read more, so I started reading Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. I made it over 100 pages in, thoroughly enjoying it, but then things came up so I put it off. A couple of months later I decide to get back into it, but decided to start from the beginning again to refresh my memory. I left off at the same spot I did the last time and haven't picked it up since. It's a funny book, but I get too occupied with being online, watching movies and trying to keep up with my DVR.

How often a year do you buy conventional books?

I buy 3-4 a year. My book shelf makes me look more intelligent. How many I've read is a disappointingly low number.

Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?

No.

Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?

I actually prefer reading books about people. Most were baseball players, hip hop artists, and wrestlers. Off the top I've read both of Howard Stern's books, both of Mick Foley's, both of Bobby Heenan's, The Rock's, Edge's, David Wells', both of Don Zimmer's, DMC's, LL Cool J's, Chuck D's.

Do you read comic books?

No.

Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?

No. Thought about it, but I don't think it would encourage me to read anymore, especially if I get one that's Internet enabled.

Do you read while in the bathroom?

No. Don't understand why people would want to spend more time in a room that has an odor that gets increasingly worse. I get in and get out.

How many TV's do you have in your home?

Two now, but that just changed a couple of weeks ago. I went years going to sleep in silence without having a TV in my room.

Do you own a 3D TV?

No. Considered buying one, but there's just not enough content to warrant me buying one.

On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?

35-40. Majority of that is soccer on the weekends. Saturday's my TV is on from 7:45am until 8-9pm watching live and DVR'd matches.

Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?

Hard to answer. With so many channels now, I only pay attention to what interests me. I have no idea what younger people watch. Do Saturday morning cartoons even exist anymore?

If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?

Pushing Daisies was a short-lived show that I really liked.

Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?

No, I purposely avoid them all.

Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on that you would have otherwise ignored?

I didn't have HBO when shows like The Sopranos and The Wire were on, but my TV has the HBOGO app and every season is available to stream, so I hope to get into those soon.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?

The only time I'm exposed to trailers is when I'm in a theater. I don't watch them on TV and would never intentionally watch one on YouTube. I really want to see Skyfall and the trailer has played a few times before movies I was seeing. I purposely keep my head down to avoid watching it. I do that with all movies I'm interested in. If the trailer starts good and piques my interest, I'll look away for the remainder of it until it's over and go see it when it comes out.

On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?

15 times.

Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?

I only read critics' reviews after I had already seen the movie so I can see what they thought. I'll never read about anything I'm interested in going to see.

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?

I'd probably prefer going with people, but since I don't have any friends, I just go by myself. It's no big deal to me. It would probably be weird for me if someone did join me since I'm so used to having no one around me.

Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?

I had a gf that loved Titanic. We ended up seeing it 3 times in the theater. I'm not even mad about that. My worst film experience was with ThaJim2. He dragged me to see either LOTR 2 or 3, not sure which one. I just know it wasn't the first one because I still have never seen it. I hated the idea of seeing a sequel having never seen the first, but then the whole idea of hobbits and fighting trees made it all worse. I tried sleeping but it was so fucking loud it made it impossible. I know I'm in the minority, but fuck that trilogy and fuck you, Jim.

Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?

I don't think I ever have at a theater. Usually I could judge if my gf would like and if I didn't think she would then I'd just go alone. I have done it countless times on DVD. I had an ex that was seriously bothered that I had her watch Spanking the Monkey with me.

Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?

A
C
B

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?

Probably B.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?

Most likely. I can't imagine there being a market for Ultra HD discs. I think streaming content is the next logical step.

Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?

I prefer the theater.

Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?

I download and then stream it to my TV. I won't watch a TV show or movie on my computer.

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?
I don't really read books, because once I start reading, I can't stop until I'm done. I bought Khalil Gibran's The Prophet and read it on vacation last summer.
How often a year do you buy conventional books?
Once a year, if that. If I do buy one, they tend to Hip Hop culture related. Last one was an episode guide of The Wire.
Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?
I remember reading a book called "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" (nh).
Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?
Malcolm X
Do you read comic books?
I did for a brief period of time, wasn't really my thing.
Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?
Nope.
Do you read while in the bathroom?
I did when I had several magazine subscriptions. I don't live alone though, and the thought of someone else handling my shit while in there bothered me. I won't touch other people's bathroom reading material either.

How many TV's do you have in your home?

4
Do you own a 3D TV?
No.
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?
Too many, 3hr a day/21hr a week sounds about right.
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
I have no clue. I used to think CBS was for old people, now their comedies seem made for retards.
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
I'm sure there are better choices, but for now I'll say Firefly and Rubicon.
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
I watch several. Jersey Shore, Real World challenges, Basketball Wives, whatever Kardashian series is currently in season.
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored?
Breaking Bad.
Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
Only if I feel the trailers are giving away too much, or it's overkill. They went kinda crazy in the last week of Prometheus promotion, and I didn't appreciate that.
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
1-2 times a month, so 20 at the most.
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
Not really. I enjoy reading Ebert's reviews, and Armond White's, because he's such a pompous fuck.
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
If it's a mainstream flick, with company. Long movies, documentaries, and things of that nature by myself. I don't want to deal with the expectations of others.
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
Several times. The worst I recall was a rom-com with Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt. Don't remember the name or anything.
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
Two movies I can recall them not liking, and also being disappointed myself were What Dreams May Come and Sky Captain.
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
I tend to be drawn to certain genres and not others. However a movie may appeal to me without being familiar with any of those options.
If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
If it looks funny, I might give it a chance as a matinee.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?

Tig Bunz once said it would be, but I have a hard time believing that. Something better will always come along. And while less people are buying physical product, there will always be a place for it.
Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?
If a film appeals to me primarily for it's visual aspect, I'd prefer to see that in a theater.
Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?
Don't really download movies, but I have been watching Showtime shows(I don't subscribe) on my TV via my laptop.

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?
Not intended to be a book, but "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett. Finished it less than a month ago.

How often a year do you buy conventional books?
Rarely. I work at a library so any book I want I can find access to for free.

Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?
Probably. Can't recall any specifics.

Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?
Numerous. I mostly read auto/biographies.

Do you read comic books?
Not in years. Still a big X-Men fan. Waiting to try out "The Sixth Gun"

Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?
Nope.

Do you read while in the bathroom?
Nope.

How many TV's do you have in your home?

1.

Yes.

On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?
10-20, if you include movies and streaming.

Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
Younger.

If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
Freaks and Geeks would have been great, but not with the actors being older characters.

Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
Cooking programs.

Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored?
Curb Your Enthusiasm and Workaholics.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
Definitely not.

On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
Probably every other month or less... so 5 is what I'd go with.

Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
Not really.

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
With company.

Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
Several times. Last one was "The Rite".

Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
Far too often. Anchorman was a good example.

Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
Usually the premise regardless of genre, sometimes the actor or director (only a couple specific ones).

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
I would wait for it to be available on streaming.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?
Doubtful.

Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?
Visually a theater is always better; the hermit in me definitely prefers at home.

Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?
At times, via TV.

Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
Younger

If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
N/A

Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
No, the last “reality show” I watched regularly was Blind Date.

Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on that you would have otherwise ignored?
In weaker moments I think maybe I’m missing something, like Breaking Bad or Louie but they pass quickly

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
I usually have my ipod on

On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
For non-first run movies, very few. For older stuff, almost too often

Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
Sometimes a good write-up gets me extra-enthused about a film that I may be already predisposed to see

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
Mostly it’s a solitary experience by necessity, company can be distracting. If I’m with someone I can’t help but simultaneously see the film with the other person’s eyes

Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
Can't think of a single instance

Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
I can’t remember what the movie was, but I dragged a gf to see a film I had already seen and loved years before. Afterwards we both came out saying WTF?? Had no choice but to apologize

Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
More often it’s between (a) and (c); very rarely (b)

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
I would check it out but wouldn’t pay (full price) for it

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?
I thought VHS would have been the ultimate in its day

Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?
Depends on the film but generally speaking the bigger the screen the better

Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?
Haven’t had the pleasure yet

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?

Re-reading On The Road at the moment, first time since high school. Have Dashiell Hammett's Red Harvest lined up next, figured i've seen a dozen movies based on it, might as well read the book finally.

How often a year do you buy conventional books?

Probably about 5 or so a year, but I've been trying to read more lately.

Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?

That book about smoking I mentioned in P&B. My old man used to make me read How To Win Friends & Influence People as punishment when I was growing up. Other than those, not really.

Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?

I recently finished Samuel Fuller's autobiography A Third Face. Made me question my life for weeks after finishing it. Amazing book, recommend it to everyone even people not that familiar with his work. Just his experiences in WWII could fill a novel on their own (literally the whole beach scene from Saving Private Ryan is like an exact reenactment of his experience); his careers in the press and the film industry also resulting in him running into what feels like almost every important person of the last century. Fascinating man with a fascinating outlook on the world.

Do you read comic books?

I collected them sporatically as a kid, but never got into them like i did sports cards and the like.

Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?

No. I like the feel of a book in my hands.

Do you read while in the bathroom?

Almost exclusively.

How many TV's do you have in your home?

Two.

Do you own a 3D TV?

No. Maybe once the tech improves and more classic catalog films get released in the format I'll take the plunge.

On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?

Probably about 20-30 on average.

Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?

Not really.

If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?

As far as shows that they could feasibly actually bring back? Firefly's a good one. Party Down.

Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?

Never.

Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on that you would have otherwise ignored?

Yeah. Almost exclusively get my movie/show recs from this site.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?

Not as extreme as Dan about trailers but I also don't really watch them. Not necessarily intentional, most of my internetting is done at work where I can't watch videos. I'd say for new releases that I watch, I've only watched the trailer for 25% of them.

On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?

5-10.

Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?

Never read critics. Most are pompous faggots in my experience. A poster I like on the :phila: that tells me in one sentence how badass or shitty something is means way more to me than eight paragraphs of some dickhead trying to make a name for himself.

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?

I still have never gone to a movie solo.

Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?

Not really, I'm a dick like that. I think the last movie where I let this happen was some Kate Hudson movie where Theo Huxtable was a pirate or something.

Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?

Yes. Last one was Prometheus.

Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?

A
C
B

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?

My appreciation for bad movies has grown substantially in the past few years and I think Curb is largely to blame for it.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?

In all practical applications then yes. Bluray is already capable of producing film-quality resolutions..........Sure there will be Ultra HD but that's only going to make a difference in picture quality in the most expensive setups where you're projecting them onto a very large screen.

Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?

Theater will always be a better experience but I prefer watching shit at home for the most part.

Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?

Download, put on a flash drive and play off my ps3.

Younger I guess
I just want another new Beavis and Butthead season, don't really need any more comebacks or revamps.
Sometimes I dumb out to Bar Rescue, Kitchen Nightmares, Top Chef, Ink Masters or some other shit, but I can't really deal with traditional reality shows.
Hmmm, not that I can think of off top.

Yes, but rarely

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company? alone

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it? Climbing the Charts (academic book on payola and diffusion of radio singles)
How often a year do you buy conventional books? three or four a month
Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about? never bought. read a stop smoking book once.
Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person? yeah - a couple Ali ones, a bunch of chef ones, some stand-up ones
Do you read comic books? Nope. As a kid I read Groo, a couple years back I read Walking Dead
Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle? have a Kindle. Use it for all my pleasure reading and maybe 50% of work reading
Do you read while in the bathroom? always, but exclusively magazines, magazine articles on Pocket

How many TV's do you have in your home? 1
Do you own a 3D TV? Nope
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV? 10 hours shows + six to nine hours sports during NFL season
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic? Network older, but overall there's a lot of variety
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be? None of 'em
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they? All the top chefs, some other food related reality
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored? absolutely

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers? nope
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year? 2 or 3
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie? If I already want to see a movie and it gets really strong reviews it might make me more likely to go to the theater. I'll see something I'm not excited about if people really like it here, but won't do that if it gets positive reviews from reviewers
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company? company. talking about the movie afterwards is as good as seeing it, IMO
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)? Nah. I went with her to a concert I wasn't at all interested in a couple weeks ago, which was only noteworthy b/c it was the first time in six years that she was really excited about going to something I had literally no interest in, and wanted me to go
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)? not really. We have similar interests, save for a couple shows she watches (Mad Men, Downton) or I've watched (Lost, Falling Skies) alone
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre? I'll see basically any shitty political thriller.
If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day? much less so than in the past. After Snakes On A Plane (which was intentionally unintentionally bad -- never saw it) I lost interest in those types of flicks, as it seems like there's a fair number of movies that are TRYING to get in the lane of "unintentionally" bad, which is just obnoxious

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment? Yes
Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)? Downloading blu rays, or just dvdrips if the movie is shitty
Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV? TV, which is hooked up to my computer

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it? Phantoms in the Brain by V.S. Ramachandran. Early August.
How often a year do you buy conventional books? Somewhat often. I bought Kalat's 9th edition Biological Psychology textbook over the summer, and the majority of the books I read for pleasure are non-fiction and scientific.
Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about? Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman
Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person? Malcolm X when I was in 5th grade or some shit.
Do you read comic books? Somebody in CYE put me on to the walking dead comics before the show came out and I wound up reading through 10 volumes of those. Then I bought some used Spawn collections that are currently collecting dust. I'll get around to reading them but I'm not the comic book reader today that I was as a kid.
Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle? No. Just like with music, I prefer to have a physical copy of whatever I decide to purchase.
Do you read while in the bathroom? Not really, I'm blessed with healthy bowel movements and I don't find the toilet seat to be as comfortable as some other people do I guess.

How many TV's do you have in your home? 2
Do you own a 3D TV? No.
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV? Including Netflix instant watch I'd say around 18.
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic? I think it caters to a stupid demographic. But from the 2 provided I'd say younger.
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be? Firefly
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they? Fuck. That. :powers:
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored? Twin Peaks. And it most certainly lived up to the hype.
Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers? I've done this a few times for movies I was really anticipating. Usually that's not the case, I enjoy watching trailers, but I've found sometimes that going into a film with no inkling of what to expect is best.
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year? 4 times.
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie? I basically rely on CYE and the netflix rating system to avoid the really shitty films. From there I just exercise my best judgement of whether or not it would be something I would actually enjoy.
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company? With company.
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)? Yes. Valentine's Day was basically the biggest piece of shit film I've endured in like 10 years.
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)? Don't think so. So yeah, probably.
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre? C A B
If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
Check it out
Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment? Doubt it.
Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)? I prefer watching most films at home but make an effort to see the blockbusters at the theater.
Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV? I have on the computer, but haven't gotten around to trying it on my TV yet. The results have been largely underwhelming.

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?
I read a lot. I often read a few books at the same time. Last book I finished was Arthur Japin's Surrender. Finished it about a week ago. I'm going for my masters, which requires me to read a lot. No problem, but I have to tone down my pleasure reading down a bit. Currently only re-reading a book on the history of the USA.

How often a year do you buy conventional books?
Not counting my study books, I think I buy at least 10 books a year. Last books I bought were Utopia and il Principe (The Prince).

Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?
Never.

Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?
Yes. I have read some sports and music related autobiography's. Last autobiography I read was Zlatan, a book about football player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played for my favorite team. He is known for being crazy, which was reflected well in the book.

Do you read comic books?
Never

Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?
No. I have thought about getting a Sony PRS-T2 though. Bought one for my mother and younger brother, they seem to love it.

Do you read while in the bathroom?
All the fucking time.

How many TV's do you have in your home?
One right now. I'll be living together with my girl come next month, so that will up the tally to two.

Do you own a 3D TV?
No

On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?
Hard to answer. I never turn on my TV. I watch sports on my computer (illegal streams), download & watch my TV shows on my computer and I don't usually watch many movies while I'm at home.

Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
There's something for everybody. Older, younger, history buff or sports fan. You just need to know where to look.

If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
Not my favorite show The Wire, because I'm afraid it wouldn't live up to its legacy. I enjoyed Deadwood a lot and I would love to see it back with a properly finished story.

Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
I watched the first few seasons of Jersey shore, but I stopped somewhere in season 4. I also watched the Dutch version of Jersey Shore, which hit a lot closer to home. That show has already come to an end though.

Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored?
Absolutely. There are many knowledgeable people here who pointed me in the right direction. Twin Peaks comes to mind.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
I watch trailers whenever I feel one caters to my interests. I don't go out to look for them though.

On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
A lot. At least 60 times a year. I see at least one movie in the theatre every week. I have a card that allows me to see as many movies as I like for 26 euro's a month. Mainstream theatre, lots of shitty people, but I get the chance to see all the movies I like, which is nice.

Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
No. I sometimes read reviews after I've seen a movie, to see if their views correspond with mine.

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
I have never gone to the movies solo. I almost always go with my girl. Sometimes with a friend and rarely with a group.

Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
Sure, I've seen some crappy turds because of my gf. Hope Springs was the last. If there's a movie she wants to see and I don't (i.e. Magic Mike), she can go with a friend.

Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
It's a toss-up at times. She loved Dredd, but ended up hating Prometheus. She says she doesn't really like Sci-fi.

Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
Usually a combination of A, B & C. Then again, I just don't know too much about movies as most of the people here. I still have to see too many 'classic' movies.

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
As long as it's entertaining, I'm game.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?
No clue. Don't really care though. As long as I get to see whatever I want.

Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?
I can't really watch movies at home. I think I lack the patience. As soon as I turn on a movie, I want to sleep. Happened to me last week again: wanted to see No Country for the first time, but ended up having to shut the movie down because I was tired and rather wanted to go to sleep. Which is weird, because I can literally watch TV shows hours at a time. On monday nights, I watch The Walking Dead, Treme and Boardwalk Empire in one extended view.

Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?
TV shows on my computer, movies on my TV. Don't currently have a DVD or blue ray player, so I have to hook my laptop up to my TV via HDMI to watch movies.

How often a year do you buy conventional books? Rarely, I hate fiction. So most books are of a specific nature or I download them.
Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about? Tons. Especially when I was married. I will say tho', "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" is something that should be read by EVERYONE.
Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person? Yes. Russell Simmons' "Do You".
Do you read comic books? No
Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle? No
Do you read while in the bathroom? No

How many TV's do you have in your home? 4
Do you own a 3D TV? No
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV? 21
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic? Younger
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be? X-Files
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they? Yes. Top Shot, MasterChef, Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives, Hell's Kitchen.
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored? Yes, but then didn't like them.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers? No
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year? 8-10
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie? No
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company? Alone, but that never happens.
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)? No
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)? Yes. SuckerPunch. I guess the joke was on me.
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre? C
If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day? B

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment? No. 20 years ago, who would've thought we'd be discussing Blu-Ray.
Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)? Depends on the film. Action/Sci-Fi - in the theater. Comedy/Drama/Shit I have to think about or listen to closely - at home.
Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV? All fuckin' day. I have the WD TV Live. Best purchase ever.

What was the last book you read and how long ago did you finish it?
Dark Pools and it was a couple of days ago

How often a year do you buy conventional books?
Now usually twice a year I will buy a bunch of cheap used books.

Have you ever bought or read a self-help book, if so what was it about?
Depends on how lose you want to be with the label of self help. Never bought a book that would be found in the self help section but bought business books like screw it lets do it that have a lot of self helpishness to them.

Have you ever read someone's autobiography/biography and who was that person?
Too many to name.

Do you read comic books?
Used to but not in the last 15 years I would say

Have you made the switch to an e-book reader e.g. a kindle?
Have a Kindle Fire but I want to get a plane Kindle instead. Too many distractions with the Fire

Do you read while in the bathroom?
That's where I do my magazine reading

How many TV's do you have in your home?
3

Do you own a 3D TV?
I will in a few weeks

On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?
Probably like 10-20 depending on sports

Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
Older demo

If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
Fastlane

Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
I like reality game shows like Survivor and the Amazing Race

Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored?
I am sure I have but can not think of any of hand. Dango727 turned me on to Breaking Bad but I think that was in person.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
Nope that is kind of dumb. If the difference between knowing and not knowing a spoiler is going to make or break a movie the movie sucked in the first place.

On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
10ish would be my guess

Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
Yes

Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
Depends on the type of movie. Expendables want to go with a crowd while something like City of God I much rather go by myself.

Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
The one where Mel Gibson could read the thoughts of women. Never again after that.

Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
Expendables 2 the most recent.

Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
Depends really. Genre I guess would be first because if its horror then its a no go right off the bat.

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
I don't understand this. If its entertaining then at some level it succeeded in its purpose.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?
Most likely yes. If there is a 4k or 8k it will be laser disk levels of popular

Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?
Depends. Some movies I have to see with a crowd Expendables 2 for example while others I can wait for.

Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?
Both

I'll skip the whole book part cause I only read when there's literally nothing else to do, like flights to europe or being in prison.

How many TV's do you have in your home?
2
Do you own a 3D TV?
Nope
On average how many hours a week do you watch TV?
Tons. It's always on , though I'm not always watching it.
Do you feel TV in general caters to a younger or older demographic?
Depends what you watch. Mostly, I'd say most forms of entertainment cater towards teenaged girls.
If there was one show you would like to see make a comeback what would it be?
Arrested development is the easy answer...but "the jenny MCcarthy show" is the tough answer.
Do you watch any reality TV programmes and what are they?
Tons. Cooking shows, travel shows and any real world/road rules related show.
Have you checked out any TV shows that were discussed heavily or recommended here on :phila: that you would have otherwise ignored?
Here and there. I checked "Homeland" out cause of this forum and I'm glad I did.

Would you intentionally ignore any trailers to an eagerly anticipated movie to avoid any kind of disappointment or potential spoilers?
Never
On average, how often do you go to the movie theater in a year?
shiiiit. I dunno. 15? 20?
Do film critics play an important factor in getting your ass to check out a movie?
Not in the slightest.
Do you prefer going to the movies alone or with company?
I never see movies alone. I never want to be "that guy". That guy, btw, being Drizzle.
Have you ever been dragged by your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick that's not really your preference (name the movie!)?
Nah. I hold strong when it comes to not seeing movies i don't want to see.
Have you ever dragged your gf/wife/significant other to see a flick you know they won't like (name the movie!)?
Not really. My girls pretty cool about that kinda shit and she has decent enough taste.
Which of the following options would be your top priority in checking out a movie: (a) The film's director; (b) The film's lead; (c) The film's genre?
Director. But none of those things are typically something that is super important to me (except "director")

If you hear a movie is bad but unintentionally entertaining, would you...(a) still check it out; or, (b) never give it the time of day?
Depends what kind of "Bad". If it's violent, then yes. If it's like "Gummo" then no.

Do you think Blu-Ray is the last physical format in home media entertainment?
What's blue ray?
Do you prefer watching films in a movie theater or wait for the eventual home format release (buying or renting)?
Movie theater. But i watch mad movies on cable too. I almost never watch dvd's.
Do you watch downloaded movies on a computer or via your TV?
Neither. I don't download movies.
