Star Trek Into Darkness (May 17, 2013)

Post by Truth. »

one minute trailer comes out Thursday

full trailer will be infront of The Hobbit with 9 minutes of footage before the IMAX version of The Hobbit

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in 3D and IMAX 3D on May 17, 2013.
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Almost fucking shocking it took them so long to get the sequel out considering how well the first one did.

The artwork reminds me of the one used for TDKR.

if i remember my geek lore correctly, Tolkien refixed the og version of the Hobbit to establish continuity to LOTR. So Sauron is just a later incarnation of Necromancer.

kinda lame that they resorted to the same old scene of destroying a city that's been done to death by now, but other than that it looks awesome

gonna be on the fence till somebody screams KHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNN though

i think they're playing coy here, dropping red herring and misleading clues to fuck with the audience. why would they do such a direct retread after the first one made such a big deal out of re-inventing the series

It might not be Khan, though. Sci-fi Columbos are suggesting it might be some geezer called Garth.

the thing with khan is that he's supposed to be somebody that Kirk dealt with long ago, right? how would they work this into this version where Kirk has only been captain for about 10 minutes?

this is the other guy the nerds are posting as the possible villain.

http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Gary_Mitchell

lotta potential in this, doesn't have the same kitsch cool as Khan but it sounds like an ill villain on paper
Mitchell was briefly stunned by direct contact with the strange energies of the barrier, but he recovered quickly. As his recovery continued, however, he began to display a widening array of psionic abilities, including but probably not limited to:

Hypercognition
Conscious regulation of autonomic reflexes
Telepathy
Extrasensory perception of various kinds, including clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairoratory
Telekinesis
The ability to control energy, including both its directed use as a weapon against other organisms, and an invulnerability to phaser weapons
The ability to manipulate matter, including the instant materialization and dematerialization of both organisms and objects

These abilities, or perhaps the energy itself, began to fundamentally alter Mitchell's personality; he became progressively more emotionally distant, cruel, ruthless, and convinced of his own magnificence. Worse, with the passage of time his abilities continued to grow stronger at an exponential rate.
this also correlates to the blond girl kirk is making eyes at in the trailer
That year, Mitchell aimed a "little blonde lab technician" towards Kirk – as a means to distract his rigid instructor – and, in turn, Kirk almost married her.

I have never watched the series but I doubt they'd use such a recognizable villain as kahn for the second outing, i the 'batch could pull it off either way. that garth guy sounds like someone they could have casted cumberbatch for based on his sherlock work. thought you were joking that he was sauron, glad dude is getting paid

generic world destroying is a bit underwhelming but they always do that type stuff for these trailers, there's this weird sort of double-blind going on in the sci-fi world nowadays where after such a dryspell of quality big-budget sci-fi fare, people tolerate whatever marketing quota of explosions it takes as long as they keep making cool and interesting stuff (Source Code is a good example)

if that long imax trailer actually shows spock dying (or even directly implies it with more than the 'hands touching on glass shot') but doesn't name Cumberbatch as Khan, it's gotta be sheneningans

after the latest trailer and the following bout of nerd speculations and obsessive overanalysis of hints dropped by various participants in the movie, I for some reason got a vague inkling that kirk is the one that dies here.
