Get A Life

Post by Tommy Bunz »

Let's talk about this.
Hilarious, subversive, and way ahead of its time.
I've been having a great time finally catching up on this show, finally released on dvd last year.
Chris Elliot and co-creator David Mirkin pitched it as Dennis the Menace if he never grew up, but it gets so much wierder and more fucked up than that.

Part of the reason I made this thread is to talk about how awesome it is, but also to highlight the great series of interviews that the A.V. Club is doing with David Mirkin. Essential if you like the show, and even if you aren't familiar with it they are a great read, very insightful into network tv behind the scenes shit and Mirkin just seems like a really cool guy.

Graham Chapman and I stayed in contact and I said to Graham, “Let’s do a show together,” and he said, “Great.” It was another premise, which I can’t tell you what it is. It was really terrific. We were just about to start on it [and], to make a long story short, Graham pulled a very Python-esque joke and he died. [Chuckles.] Right at the very beginning of things. And I must say that talking to Graham in the hospital, just days before he passed, he was still funnier and more brilliant than I will ever be. Even in that state. Such a classy guy, it was heartbreaking and hilarious at the same time.

October 23, 2012: Comedy legends CHRIS ELLIOTT & ADAM RESNICK are in studio for all 3 hours! Amongst other things, they discuss: 'Cabin Boy's troubled production and lasting legacy, the all too short-lived 'Get A Life' and of course, Chuck Woolery and Garry Shandling.

Love that this came out on DVD, hate that the 2 compilation DVD's that they released, that I own, are now worthless when they were going for good money on ebay. Knew I should have sold them.

I was too busy watching Beverly Hills 90210 when this show originally aired, but I've always wanted to see it. Currently snatching up the torrent.

Man, Chris Elliot was so fucked up on this show. It was the most depressing and comedic show I remembered aside from Married With Children. I often think David Cross and Chris Elliot should've done a movie together given they play the same kind of characters.
