Even though female led spinoffs are already in the works, it seems audiences (worldwide, though maybe not so much domestically) are still keen on Sylvester Stallone's geriatric antics in "The Exendables," with "The Expendables 2" seeing a slight uptick in business over the first entry. So yes, "The Expendables 3" is on the way, and Sly has a few things to say about it.
The actor recently hit Facebook and managed to pound out a few (sometimes hard to comprehend) sentences about the movies, the reported casting of Nicolas Cage and more. Read on:
"We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing 'The Expendables'. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want."
You got that critics? This is a "saga" with a "veneer intellectual group" (huh?). Anyway, Clint has already said he's "probably not" going to do this (then again, he talked to an empty chair on live television, so who knows), but keep reaching for those stars Sly. No word on when it will get rolling, but the project is already on the sales floor at AFM, so probably sooner rather than later. [via JoBlo]

Awesome. I would love to see a 'Bad Lieutenant' style Cage in the mix.
Hopefully Van Damme returns as the twin brother of his character from the last film.

Jackie Chan Confirms Role In The Expendables 3
The news comes from a press conference for CZ12 in Kuala Lumpar and was reported by Cinema Online (via ComingSoon). Apparently Sylvester Stallone has been chasing Chan since The Expendables 2 and is now going to get his wish. When asked about his possible involvement, Chan had this to say:
Sly had invited me to be in Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn’t make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.
In Chan’s discussions with Stallone, the possibility of making The Expendables 3 a “buddy-buddy movie” (like a buddy movie but with even more friendship) apparently also came up, and Chan said that Stallone seemed amenable to the idea.

Re: The Expendables 3
That buddy buddy shit makes me nervous. The first sequel's overreliance on uninspired cliches/lame one-liners and lazy movie references got annoying to me. I want them to go into a more violent direction, not make a fucking buddy comedy with guns.
Re: The Expendables 3
What better way could there be for Wesley Snipes to celebrate his release from federal prison than signing up to co-star in 'The Expendables 3'?
And what better way could there be to learn the news than a middle-of-the-night Tweet by Sylvester Stallone himself?
Wesley Snipes has been out of circulation for a while, of course, and any time someone comes out of prison, it's a gamble about whether or not they're going to be able to pick up where they left off, and in entrainment, it seems like it's even more of a gamble. Sure, there are stories like Johnny Cash, and the public loves to forgive people they like, but I'm not sure Wesley Snipes was particularly beloved when he went into prison in the first place. He had burned a lot of bridges in the industry, and he wasn't exactly toplining giant studio movies anymore.
"The Expendables" seems like it hinges on the idea of career rehab, though, and while I haven't really liked either of the films, I like the idea of them. I like the notion that we're getting these action movies that feel like relics of an earlier time, and the movies all star actors who could also be considered relics of an earlier time. Wesley Snipes would actually be one of the younger guys in the film if he does indeed join the ensemble. Stallone's also been talking about making Jackie Chan part of the cast as well, and based on the conversation I had with Chan last year at Comic-Con, he would be game if that deal comes together.
About that Gibson thing...
It looked like it was just a sort of idle speculation on Stallone's part, and he got some immediate negative feedback from some of the people on Twitter, but I'd be totally interested if that happened.
Yes, I know. And I agree. I doubt I'll be throwing a dinner party and inviting Gibson any time soon, and he strikes me as a somewhat pathetic figure at this point. His personal battles seem like rough ones. But I think Gibson's a better filmmaker than anyone who's had anything to do with the series so far, and at this point, what does he have to lose? If these films are offering career redemption to the action icons of the '80s, then having Mad Max himself helm one of the films seems absolutely appropriate. And who knows? Maybe he'd knock it out of the park. Maybe he's the perfect guy to do something like this at this point.
Whatever the case, it sounds like they're definitely gearing up on the next one, and I'm guessing Stallone casts a wide net each time out. Steven Seagal is one of the few people I've seen Stallone specifically exclude, saying it just won't work out. Otherwise, if you blew anything up or shot anyone in the '80s, chances are you're going to get a phone call from Stallone at some point.

Re: The Expendables 3
Gibson would be great for this. People are idiots. Whatever he said about jews or women or whatever has nothing to do with the fact that he's a solid director, likely far better than anybody they actually end up using.

apparently this guy is the director

which bodes well for people wanting a darker tone, his only feature credit to date was a pretty dark modern Aussie western

I would love for him to write a part for Burt Young somehow. Doesn't matter good or bad guy, just let me see Paulie one more time.

Definitely hope he brings the series back to earth instead of cameos for the sake of cameos and extremely obvious movie references.

http://deadline.com/2013/05/lionsgate-e ... ion-plans/Production of the action movie is due to begin in August and the studio is in “advanced negotiations” with Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nic Cage and Milla Jovovich, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told analysts this morning.
Re: The Expendables 3
Mel Gibson came under some fire last night at the Mel Brooks tribute, still the butt of jokes after his career ending moves with the police, anti-Semitism, racism, drinking, philandering, accusations of violence against his baby mama, and so on. And of course “The Beaver.”
But now I’m told that Gibson will appear in “The Expendables 3,” the third installment of Sylvester Stallone’s shoot em up series that also features his former Planet Hollywood buddies and partners Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. There’s no confirmation, but the source seemed serious.
Also featured in “E3″ are Jackie Chan and Milla Jovovich.
Gibson, sources say, will play “the villain” in the new movie. He’s lucky to be included in a film with other stars at this point. After all his scandals and “The Beaver” he can’t open a film. He made a movie two years ago that was released to video on demand. Basically, there’s very little demand to pay for Mel Gibson in a movie theater.
Stallone had Tweeted back on April 13th that Gibson was not interested in directing “Ex 3.” But I guess he changed his mind about appearing in the film which also features Nicolas Cage.

Snipes has also been confirmed. He was supposed to play Terry Crews' role originally anyway, kinda glad he didn't get it cause Crews worked out really well

Sorta been burned twice by this franchise. wish they spent more money on the script for 3 than on stunt casting.

Re: The Expendables 3
these movies look much better if you consider them as tongue in cheek fan service/movie fan in-jokes rather than serious attempts at making action movies. they're basically elaborate memes
that's why all the winking shit in part 2 didn't bother me. there are much younger and (presently) more capable directors and actors making awesome 'real' action movies, ranging from gritty ultra-violence like Raid and Dredd to big budget spectaculars like the FF series. both Stallone and Arnie made fairly respectable efforts recently outside of this franchise. so just enjoy these for what they are.

The younger (and seemingly talented/interesting) director and Sly being aware of movies like The Raid ( http://twitter.com/TheSlyStallone/statu ... 3109341184 ) gives me hope for the third one.
