Aguirre, the Wrath of God. Werner Herzog 1972
This has been remastered and got a re-release in the UK.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068182/
Anyone seen this before? The press is going bananas over it. Off to see it on Sunday.
Big fan of Klaus Kinski, such a freaky looking actor.

Re: Aguirre, the Wrath of God. Werner Herzog 1972
Any Werner Herzog film with Klaus Kinski in it is worth checking out. Personally, I like Fitzcarraldo a bit more than Aguirre, but both are excellent films. Only reason I mention Fitzcarraldo is that they both take place around/on Amazonian rivers and they both have Kinski in them. Figure no one will care, but my favorite Herzog/Kinski film is Cobra Verde, which never really gets a mention by Herzog fans.
If you wanna interpret the story of Aguirre as a metaphor for European Imperialism in Latin America, so be it, but I think that's a pretty unengaged and easy way to interpret the film. Basically it's about a Spanish soldier (Kinski) and his quest to find the fabled "Lost City of Gold" with his conquistador crew. As they travel further and further downstream into the Amazon they also travel further and further into paranoia/madness. It's not the kind of film that everyone's going to enjoy, but it's got some really amazing cinematography and a great production history attached to it.
But yeah, Kinski's a G. He's a crazy looking dude, and a super fun actor. Anything with him in it is usually worth the money.

haha
I did search it but only found a few posts on the DVD release. Thought a remaster & a re-release was worthy of a new post, no?

Yeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh, not a big fan of this movie at all.
I'll give it another day in court, but I found Fitzcarraldo to be much more well crafted/entertaining on the whole.

Can't see that it has been elsewhere. Seems like a strange decision to limit it to one market?drizzle wrote:TeenageMoustache wrote:Tune in next week when Jimmy recommends The Proposition.

Enjoyed the flick. I'd say it was great film-making, I don't know if I'd say I really loved the film. The opener is pretty magnificent.
Glad I've dragged up some archived gems with my ism

Yeah it's not up yet, it's on their printed bimonthly calendar. For some reason, sometimes it's way ahead of the site
I know some other movies scheduled are
Stroszek
Woyzzeck
Kaspar Hauser
Signs of Life
The remaining two escape me
