Fruitvale Station

Post by The Rapping Coffin »

Won Sundance and got standing ovations at Cannes. It comes out next month so we'll be able to find out if it's a white guilt Crash situation or if it's actually a good movie. Cool to see the gawd Vince Howard making the leap to film star though.

I was hoping this was about Fruittown Pirus, but that's a good promo. Nothing was given away and I am intrigued.

I was born two blocks from that Bart station, it's going to be a trip to see it on the big screen. (It was also shown in the Life Is Too Short video)
I wonder how or why they got permission to film on location.

I was on that train right before that (or the same one, dunno) coming back from SF.

Some kid standing next to me pulled a gun while we were under the bay, and like dumb motherfuckers they stopped the train and left us down there for like 5 minutes while the kid was waving a gun around threatening to shoot people. We pulled into West Oakland, and I guess he didn't know the station, so he ran to the right (where the platform just ends, instead of left where the stairs are), got chased down the platform by a couple cops, and ending up jumping off the platform (which is like three fucking stories high) and breaking both his legs.

The cop who murdered Grant had raced over to Fruitvale after having come to chase down this kid in West Oakland.

ever read gladwell's blink? there's whole section about how most police brutality happens after a chase because the body reaches a certain adrenalin point where there's just no turning back and you stop being able to make good judgements.

kinda the only part i remember from the book, it was a kind of a letdown overall compared to his other writings.

Three 6 got cameos in Hustle & Flow, but unfortunately I don't see Husalah getting an Oscar nod.
