he's gotta be coldhands right? that's pretty much a given?

i assumed so since he's rocking the black. didn't bran meet benjen when he was at winterfell though? or was bran in a coma at that point?

did they show cold hands yet on the show? i remember them teasing him (pause) with the all the ravens but i don't remember actually seeing him. maybe they're waiting to introduce him on the show since there's no way to leave his identity ambiguous?

iirc, in the book he wears a scarf wrapped around his face the whole time so nobody recognizes him. which is of course narrative shorthand for 'this is somebody you already know'. generally speaking, benjen is refered to so often in the books that it would be either a huge writing fuckup on Martin's part to never bring him back. and what better way than this. of course, it could also be all misdirection.

Coldhands def wasn't in the show yet, although he's supposed to be. he's supposed to be the one that leads Fatty to the underground gate, and he's the one that tells Fatty to send Bran & co. to come find him on the other side.

of course, this could all be ret-conned next season

one knock against the Benjen = Coldhands theory is that the first child of the forest they meet describes Coldhands as having been "killed long ago." strange choice of words for a being that lives hundreds of years.

I think at this point I wouldn't be surprised is Benjen is Coldhands considering how long he's been lost in the North but it's also something that might be too obvious for Martin to go for.

no way is benjen coldhands, it's just too easy. I think he's the Night's King, personally. there is also a mention of some old ranger who worked at mapping the lands beyond the wall, was a friend to the Children and never returned from ranging, can't remember his name though.

Then read the books and join the club. The show is amazing, but the details from the books are only going to make it better. I know a lot of people are scared of the size, but once you get into them you'll only wish they were longer. I'm in the middle of my yearly re-read, and have been finishing one per week, although, I've got a busted ankle and can't work so it's basically all i do.

Here's the funny thing - the new dude looks far far more like the character is described in the book. But the prevailing opinion among female readers, is that the Fabio looking dude is far more suitable to what the character is supposed to be - a good-looking badboy that the Khaleesi is attracted to for all the wrong reasons (ie because she's a horny teenager)

So I hadnt watched the last two eps of Season 3 until last night. I was excited to return to this thread and you guys did not disappoint.

I thought it was tight that Hodor saw the over the wall dudes and the light bulb went off in his head and he began to vocalize an early idea of rousseau's social contact, but prince valiant stark used the dark powers of patriarchal feudalism to shut him up.
