X-Files Back

Post by Tommy Bunz »

New 6 episode mini-series going into production this year.
Agents Mulder and Scully are officially returning for duty again.

After announcing in January that a reboot of sorts was in the works, Fox has announced that X-Files will be back for a six-episode run, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson set to reprise their roles.

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files — one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers — and we couldn't be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” said Fox TV Group CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden in a joint statement.

X-Files ran for nine seasons on Fox from 1993 to 2002, spawned two films and earned 16 Emmys.

Show creator Chris Carter is set to helm the revival.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

The series is set to begin production summer 2015 with an air date to be announced at a later time.

"The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture — yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning," Walden and Newman added. "Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

The first news of a X-Files resurrection was first addressed earlier this year, when Walden and Newman admitted they were working on a possible return, as well as one for cult favorite Prison Break. (There was no news on the latter front.)

Fox most recently staged a return for Jack Bauer with 24: Live Another Day, a limited series which performed solidly in the ratings. It has not been picked up for another installment.

to me the great thing about x files was the indiv ep stories, not the grand incomprehensible conspiracy. as long as they focus on that stuff it'll be fire.

the "hiding in the light" episode haunts me to this day.

Agreed. The mythology was cool. I liked the monster of the weeks ones better. And there were some fucked up ones. What was the one with the incest family. And the bed ridden mom. That was all the same episode right?

I prefer the mythology-arc. Think I might check out the show again and watch just those because I only remember it all vaguely and lost track when Mulder disappeared. The 2-parter with the alien on the train was my favorite episodes I think.

But it would also be cool to rewatch some of the best monster-eps I guess.

http://x-files.wikia.com/wiki/Mythology" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thinking about it you could say that conspiracy-stuff is having a real comeback since the 90's. Only makes sense to reintroduce the Xfiles to a new audience and make people like me interested in shiny new DVD-sets or whatevs.

Incredible how much DD an GA still look like themselves from back then. GA was very sexy in that British copshow too.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

Yes. It's called "Home." GREAT use of music in that ep.

(when the brothers are murdering the Sheriff, I believe.)

Two of my favorite Monster-of-the-Week eps were those penned by William Gibson, "Kill Switch" and "First Person Shooter." Another great use of music in the former w/ "Twilight Time."

I saw this on reddit. Should be really good if you wanna follow the main story and see some of the best monsters on the way.
I am about 40% through watching a "selected" list of episodes that include all the mythology episodes along with what is, as best as I could determine, the best of the "MotW" episodes. I combed through some "top 10 best episodes", crowd source episode ratings, etc, and picked out a bunch of the best ones.
There's about 90-95 episodes on the list and I've enjoyed every single one of them so far. I'm sure I'll miss out on some good ones, but I think I will also skip a ton of not-good/bad ones too. So far, when you are only watching the "best" episodes and the main story arc, the show holds up fantastically well considering it's 20 years old.

Provenance 9x10
Providence 9x11
Jump the Shark 9X15

The Truth 9x19
I'm all about the alien episodes and it feels like an entirely different show when you go through just them but I fear it's going to get dull when Mulder leaves the show in the last two seasons.

Crazy talk. First movie was an epic globe-spanning adventure with a bunch of extremely amazing action sequences, the second movie is an average monster-of-the-week episode that tries to pass off Xzibit as a serious actor.

I had watched meticulously everything up until the first move some 3-4 years ago so I decided to follow the list above from the sixth season onwards (i.e. right after the events of the first movie) it was superb! Season 9 was a bit lacking but still had it's moments.

Watched the first 2 episodes from the new miniseries and even though I am still unsure whether I like the direction they've spun it, it is a good continuation from when the series ended

First episode was sooooo fucking bad. Like worst episode of the entire series bad. Gillian looked bored. Duchovny looked fat and bored. Felt like they were playing a parody of their own show. Skinner seemed like the only one who remembered how to play his character. Somehow the cigarette smoking man is still alive. Only good part was that hot little dime piece from The Americans.
Still in for the season but if it wasn't so short I'd probably be bailing already.
There is no excuse for this to have been so shitty. Its such an easy formula. But its like they tried to stuff an entire series worth of conspiracy into a 40 minute show. So dumb.
