so let's quietly use this thread to talk about a certain movie that succeeds marvelously as a genre exercise but that fact is lost on people who are caught up in the faggotry of the official thread

who caught the very very very awesome reference to GBU at the end? it wasn't very obvious but so soooooo damn good

also, was the shot of Foxx bathing in the hot springs directly cribbed from Great Silence?

also, kind of a shame that QT blew his whole load of Spaghetti themes and ques on KB2. these were missed here, not enough of them. and if he wanted original music, there are literally dozens of bands that do similar shit these days, and any one would've fit better than rick ross

Finally watched it and I'll refrain from posting my thoughts in that monumental cock-up that is the official thread. Enjoyed it a lot, but it felt a little bittersweet to me. Definitely have some misgivings about certain stuff. Foxx felt overshadowed by the Waltz, De Caprio and Jackson. Will need to see this again and fully soak it all in.

Yup and a nice spin on it too.

i thought so too. I might be wrong but Calvin's blood smear on Broomhilda scene felt like a reference to Lee Marvin doing that in The Klansman. The Aussie miners felt like a reference to something in particular, no idea what.

Didn't mind the Rick Ross track, it dropped pretty nicely but some of the other songs felt a bit out of place.

Blue Underground still kicking it. I'm copping this! Wound up buying some VHS transfer on DVD a few years back and I had to take that shit off as the quality was so bad.

Wierd that they are making that their first new release in years, since Mill Creek put it out on bluray last year and you can buy it for $5.

I can't take a SW list seriously that has Django Kill first and The Great Silence 8th. Not too mention its missing Cemetery Without Crosses & The Mercenary.

Haven't seen half that list but Face to Face is #1 that I wanna get to. Is it correct to say that it's a virtual redo of Big Gundown? Also wasn't there a recent release of it on dvd (US)?

There was a reg2 UK release back in 2011, don't know if there was a US release, though.

Watching Cemetery Without Crosses tonight. Looking forward to that.

Face To Face def wasn't released in US, at least not recently or not legitimately. I still haven't watched it since my all-region game is on hold at the moment, but the description sounds absolutely nothing like the Big Gundown.

Technically, Cutthroats Nine isn't a spaghetti western as it's spanish, isn't it? Great movie, regardless.

aleph you might be thinking of Run Man Run, a sequel to Big Gundown that has some similar elements. It's been out on BU for a while

You're probably right, I just saw Run Man Run last month so it's all probably running together in my head. I've been on a steady diet of these since the Film Forum program; I could no doubt discern them better if I had gotten into it years ago.

I guess it's the running bandit/mercenary and bandit/intellectual bromance theme in a lot of them, and not a one disappointed. I think The Mercenary/A Professional Gun deserves to be on there or at least top 25. Tepepa, too

still love the trinity movies (they call me trinity, trinity is still my name) they're funny, definitely not top 10 or probably even 20, but still good movies.

for what it's worth, the sequel (trinity is still my name) is better than the first one.

Nero, Kinski & Aumont :ohsh: :ohsh: :ohsh:

It's directed by the same guy who made the awesomely trippy Footprints on the Moon too.

So that upcoming Blue Underground release isn't actually a western at all but an adaptation of Carmen.

Anyhow:
