saw this thread bumped thought maybe new ep was out. this is the second last season i think? duno what but GRRM has to blow people's minds again on some ned stark shit. probably end of season cliffhanger.

what driz talkin about
i guess they'll reveal some shit about jon sno. ned flashback to reveal his identity. maybe even first ep.
imo jon coming back to life is the mirror image of ned dying. predict it happens last ep of this season.

High Sparrow is a religious throwback who hates how corrupt the 7 kingdoms have become. He wants to turn back the clock to when religion was pure. High Sparrow is more of a Ted Cruz imho yo

honestly not having the weight of the books hanging over every single thing that happens feels very liberating. sure it will probably keep getting worse but at least now it will start sucking on its own terms and not Martin's... the possibilities are endless

Agreed. Still hoping this will be good, but I seriously doubt it.

Did I miss something? when did the GoT backlash begin?

Somewhere around the time it became obvious that the adventures of Jaime and Bronn aren't going to be anywhere near as good as the adventures of Jaime and Brianne. Realistically the show has been showing some falloff signs since season 4, but 5 was where they had some really shitty moments. That Dorne stuff really showed how hard it is to adapt the more meandering elements of the later books that may or may not have long term significance, while also keeping the show somewhat watchable and keeping popular characters visible. To their credit, I think they did a lot better with Tyrion's and Khaleesy's storyline.

I really am glad they don't have to follow the books anymore though, the showrunners were stuck trying to cover for Martin's own failings as well as having to make shit up on their own. Now at least they only have to worry about the latter.

I would make a medium sized wager that this is the best season yet.

i don't feel the show has fallen off at all. it's as great as it ever was.

i get the dorne criticism -- high expectations due to two of the most interesting characters heading off on an adventure, thwarted by limited screentime. tbh i'm always stoned when i watch this so i dunno what the other complaints might be.

Pretty standard first episode. Set ups and all that. Nothing too crazy to report back.

Definitely thought Khaleesi was gonna get the train of a thousand stallions ran on her.

curious if the red woman sleeps like that every night or if she's forever gonna be that old now.

Really didn't need them to go back to dorne but if those hot dornish whores show them thangs, might be worth it.

Thought it was a good start.

It doesn't feel like much in the show bc they botched Dorne so badly, but Doran getting killed is kinda huge.

Kinda hoping the red woman turning old was a sign of her doing some shit but I think it was just a character-building moment. She's supposed to be hundreds of years old and one of her powers is supposed to be obscuring appearances. Feels like maybe they showed that explicitly as a lead up to her having a 'I'm old as fuck and the fire lied to me so Imma sacrifice myself to bring John Snow back' moment later on.

Her turning into an old bag has to relate to bringing Big John Stud back.

I assume she turns back into Young Mel when she puts the necklace back on? Would be a shame not to see those tits again.

Also, I assume it was just a continuity thing but we've seen her without that necklace on before:

If they're gonna bring back snow I hope they don't drag it out all season. Legit cheered when Brienne rolled up to save salsa.
