finale was a downer and a bit slow. thought it was decent but ended the otherwise good season on a somber ass note. That being said, they set up TONS of potential awesome developments (Eli in/around Chicago, AR working (or more?) w Margaret, Narcisse still being alive/around, etc).
I'm hoping that Chalky isn't essentially done as a major character but the ending made it appear that way.

yeah. kinda disappointed to hear this. while I'm mostly on board with shows ending before they wear out their welcome and spin their wheels, I feel like the wealth of characters on this show would have allowed them to go for at least two or three more seasons, even if smaller players became larger focuses of the show.

to me its simply a matter of nooki being the heart of boardwalk empire and the writers running out of things to do with him. how many more seasons of: "a new challenger approaches and tries to take the throne" can they do? I'm all for expanding upon minor characters, and I love all the branching storylines, but it all comes back to nooki.
i was only mostly interested in the chalky and luciano stories, didnt care too much about nucky's current situation in havana, although his past story is interesting, like how he he started on the boardwalk, and how his relationship was with his father. irish queen shcroeder story is ok, with the bank manager depressed and killing himself
too bad its gonna be a short season (only 8 episodes) so they have to cram a lot in quickly.
yeah i dont know why they'd choose to only do 8 episodes in the final season, especially with the glacial pacing of the show.
Last night's episode was ok, nothing special. much rather have capone and van alden involved than do long flashbacks to nucky's childhood, although i think the flashbacks were interesting- just wish they'd have done them in previous seasons so this season could be more focused.
apparently they shortened the season because it's expensive as hell to keep the show going. the show is beautiful so i can understand that it takes a lot to maintain that 1920 era feel to the show.
also, i heard the other reason was because they can't keep the fans, they keep flocking over to Game of Thrones, haha...so Game of Thrones is actually the main culprit as to why Boardwalk Empire is failing. That, and the director and Michaal Pitt (Jimmy) couldnt get a long so after Jimmy's character was killed off the director's story kinda jsut went downhill.
Boardwalk was the only thing keeping me afloat until GoT ;__; fucking whack it's only 8 eps, but maybe it'll be way more fast paced. It also starts off 6 years after season 4, so It's kind of interesting not even really needing to remember where shit left off since so much has changed. We doin a new thread for this tho? or jus lettin it die here with the show?

eh. Show isn't really about Capone, it's about nucknuck. And we already saw Capone's beginning of his rise with the death of his boss, and we all knew it was coming anyways. If I had to choose, I'd rather see him in the full swing of things than a season of him climbing to power.
