I think the main problem is they're dragging the buildup of the story for too long. There are also too many uninteresting and useless characters. They could've done well without the character played by Kitsch for example.

Last scene was awesome though. Show needs more Eyes Wides Shut type orgies and occult murders by men in animal masks.

This show has some of the worst dialogue and writing I think I've ever heard from a major production. It's completely unwatchable.

Just get the gay cop threesome over with now sooner than later. Colin can stick it in McAdams's butt and she can stick it into that other closet homo's butt and the show can end with all of them staring blankly into the night over some shit country hybrid song.

Judging from the first ep, it's McAdams who likes to stick things in men's butts.

Haven't seen the spoilers, but if Farrell lives after a point blank shotgun blast regardless of payload it's absurd. I suppose they could focus on his back story more, but who cares really?

Same. Can't really put my finger on why, but I really like it. It's hammy and OTT, but looks great and is really watchable, bit like Only God Forgives or something. I get a similar vibe from it for some reason.

Only God Forgives is like that on intentionally though and dope af for it, like a steak that's purposefully charred just right. TD2 is a steak that's charred because it was made by a bad cook who doesn't know when to flip it.

Funny, I thought the show took a step in the right direction tonight. This despite the fact that Farrell should be dead. The dream sequence at the beginning WAS fucking awful though. Elvis impersonator? Really? Good to see Fred Ward, I appreciate what he brings to the table.

I liked that it was just focusing on the investigation this go round.

Im enjoying this show. Bad writing? Not really. The writing of Vaughns monologue about being locked in a pitch black basement for 6 days, being attacked by rats was brilliant character development and great writing. It's Vaughn who sucks as a serious actor/villain. Such a horrible miscast.

still in for now. It's a bit odd that an 8 episode season, the show is still just settled. this multiple director thing seems like a bad idea.

a lot of :ardy: going on. show is by default one of the best options for Sunday 9PM viewing and unfortunately it just isn't paying off yet.

my sentiments exactly. the third episode had some good scenes, mostly with vaughn and ferrel, but the kitsch scenes are attrocious. the conversations between him and the other vet, as well as with mcadams are painful to watch. it felt like everything was in slow motion. i appreciate the look and vibe they're going for but lots of it is really sloppily executed.

i'll keep watching though

I'm compelled to watch because it's such a train wreck, that and there's not much out right now show wise that I'm interested in. I've had to basically rewatch every episode because it loses my attention so much on my first watch of every episode.

The fact the first season was so intriguing and this season is...not...actually adds some intrigue because you keep telling yourself "It's gotta get better...right?" I feel like I can hear almost every line coming out of Pizzolatto's smug mouth and it makes all the characters unlikeable to me.

The Vinci storyline and the killings are winding into an intriguing story and it's becoming more entertaining with every episode, so in that sense it's improving (a little at least). But the characterization of the leads and the dialogue are so leaden and clunky and awkward and just.... bad that I think that element is hopeless. There's still no good reason for the bike cop character to even exist, and his near epilptic panic attacks while he was in the hooker club was some Mystery Science Theater 3000 level shit.

Last season we had a story that ultimately turned out to be pretty meh but was told via really well realized characters. The best outcome for this one is an interesting story told through shitty characters.

Third episode clicked for me. I like Vaughn and his character in this. I like where it's all headed.

Keep dreaming. Unless Pizzolatto found someone new to plagiarize mid season, this shit is DOA. I also completely disagree with calling Cohle and Hart 'well realized'.

I liked last episode and despite all the faults I think the show is steadily improving. The recurring theme Pizzo tries to convey seems to be the decline of (Western) civilization, urban decay and the growing impotence of a (former) superpower. It's a helluva slow burn though for a season with only 8 episodes.
