i wonder if sweet smell will be worht the upgrade

weird that they picked that for BR, considering that dialogue is its main strength

You don't think the visuals alone warrant the upgrade? It's one of the best visions of NY on film.

I'm sure it has very little to do with picking it for BR and more with the fact that a BR & DVD release is now pretty much the standard for each new criterion release. Only a very small percentage of their new releases now are DVD-only.

I picked up blurays of:

Hausu
For All Mankind
Antichrist
Modern Times
Charade
Paths of Glory
Breathless
The Magician

My store was sold out of Night of the Hunter within 2 hours of the store opening on the day of the release. I tried to order it but they weren't able to fill it. I guess Criterion completely sold out their initial stock of it? Anyone else have problems getting a copy?

KAGEMUSHA
7 SAMURAI
YOJIMBO SANJURO
PATHS OF GLORY
THIN RED LINE
HOUSE
NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

I would absolutely buy a 3 Ninjas criterion.
Audio commentary with Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum.
A documentary look into Emily's eventual drug addictions and forays into hardcore porn.
Victory Wong biography: living life as Mr. Miyagi's bitch.

I think they are both improvements on the originals. Better than the revamped Fuller covers at the very least.

Criterion has reached 50,000 fans on Facebook, so they will be having a 50% off sale on all DVDs and Blu-rays. The sale will last 50,000 seconds.
The promo code hasn't been released yet, but will be soon. Check http://www.facebook.com/CriterionCollection for details. Be warned though, the Facebook page and Criterion's site are being slammed, so expect page errors.

:icedit: Promo code is THANKS. It was posted at 8:15pm est, so sale ends 50,000 seconds from then.

I haven't purchased any Criterion before (usually rented), but I picked up a few from the sale. Got:

Cronos (blu ray)
Seven Samurai (blu ray)
The Battle of Algiers (dvd)
Overlord (dvd)

Really wish Peeping Tom wasn't out of print. But I found it on amazon and picked it up there tonight as well.

I ordered 3 Blu-rays

Revanche
Modern Times
The Thin Red Line

Never saw the last one, wanted to go with a blind buy, so it was between that and Paths of Glory.

Is Earrings that good? Never really seemed like something that I'd like.

Definitely going to pick of NotH since B&N screwed me during their last sale, maybe a couple other things. Really trying to not blow a shitload of money on dvd's for a while. This sale ends in a couple hours btw.

it's a very well written and incredibly shot melodrama about a high society woman having an affair. even with it's O'Henry-ish ironies and mindblowing camera movements i can't front, it's basically a :smugkid: chick flick. i also can't front on the fact that i'm incredibly gay for it.

You have a short memory man. Go back two pages, you asked the same thing.
