Westlake was dope.

Keep reading, the third book, The Outfit is an awesome awesome conclusion to the stuff started in the Hunter (not that it's the last Parker book of course)

You know if they are going to re-release all the parker shit?

It's definitely going to mixed in liberally to the rotation.

pretty sure somebody (Gregg Press maybe? I'll look it up) just rereleased the first three novels in the past year (The Hunter, The Man with the Getaway Face, and The Outfit) with plans to release more.

You can also try Alibris for used copies, some parkers are pretty cheap some are whoaaa expensive

cool. thanks.

I knew about the first three. Probably dying and having EW pimp your shit pretty hard will help get them all released.

holy shit i didn't know about the parker re-releases, def gonna look for those. every time i've tried to find some stark books prior i was shit out luck, did a little better with the westlake stuff

incidentally, fyi made in the usa is playing at the film forum in january. it's one of the few movies based on his work i haven't seen yet, so i'm gonna have to overcome my distaste for godard and check that shit out

Ooh, I was unaware that had been subtitled, hopefully a rip or dvd will find its way to my neck of the internet at some point (at which point I will also have to get over my distaste for Godard)

wanted to say thanks again for the heads up on the re-prints, i picked up the hunter today, bout 40 pages into it so far...

phenomenal shit, i'm loving every word. vastly superior to the other westlake stuff i've read (hot rock for example). the only other pulp/crime author i can think of that's this mean and dark is jim thompson. spillane seems positively pg13 by comparison, while old faves like hammet and conan-doyle might as well have been writing disney movies

it's rare that something lives up to a long pent-up hype, but this seems to be one of those cases

I bought slayground today from my still going out of business favorite video store. Pretty sure I downloaded this a while ago but I'm not gonna not buy a parker related item I mean come on

and man does the hunter start great or what? Parker crossing the brooklyn bridge all mean and shit, dude stops to give him a ride and parker's just like 'go to hell sissy' or some shit like that

fuck i had a long response typed out and lost it, but it was just boiled down to 'fuck yeah this shit rocks'. i even typed out that first paragraph cause it's insanely badass

slayground is ok, not great but not terrible. worth the time for parker completists certainly. Peter Coyote does pretty well, a few nice set pieces, fast paced. Don't expect the world and you wont be dissapointed

made in the usa was NOT a good stark adaptation btw, if you're still curious

good godard movie, as much as that is possible to my taste, but worthless in terms of Parker lore. the constant references to noir conventions and trivia are cute, but that's about it

Alright, I broke down and ordered the first three books based in equal parts on the awesomeness of the movie "Point Blank" and the highly respected opinions of the people in this thread.

I'll report back.
