The Seth Rogen Effect
I saw Pineapple Express yesterday and I really wanted to see my man McBride in action since we had the poll up. With ease McBride takes that poll BTW, but the real beef is how I have no tolerance for Rogen anymore.
Years ago we all discussed this would probably happen and it's hit me really hard now. I don't mind him in his earlier rolls. I can still watchs F&G or even 40 year old but when he is the main character I fucking cringe.
If McBride is a one-trick pony than Rogen REALLY is a one trick pony. Obviously he can write so I prefer him to stick to that and lay off the lead roles for a minute.
Pineapple Express continues to get better but only because of the sick performance Franco gives. The supporting cast is non-stop LOL's too with McBride, Craig Robinson, Corrigan, Cole and Hader. I just cannot stand watching Rogen anymore.

i like rudd a lot but i have a sneaking suspicion he can't carry a movie on his own. he needs to be paired up with somebody ala rolemodelsEmployee wrote: Paul Rudd really needs more starring roles.

You're affection for Rogen is disturbing. He has long-term appeal to the same group of people who like Dane Cook. It has nothing to do with being "edgy" and everything to do with being "funny."Hayzoos wrote:Thread is full of . Rogan and the rest of the Apatow crew are fuckin hilarious. Fags who say differently are just homos who are trying to be edgy by going against the grain.

None of these guys really carries movies alone though. One of the appeals of these kind Apatow or affiliated flicks is the fact you know the supporting cast will always bring the heat.
Who would have thought Segal would have "carried' Forgetting Sarah Marshall? That whole clan is like the Wu, each bring something different to the table. Most of Will Ferrall's recent flicks have been him paired with others.
If you ask me, Baruchel or Hill can lead but as long as you have somebody from the well like Franco, McBride. Jane Lynch, Segal, Rudd or Martin Starr in the mix you're golden. And whats up with Romany Malco? I'd love to see him do more stuff like he did in 40 y/o.
None of their personalities scream that Jewish loud neurotic overdrawn comedy that Rogen does. It is overexpose but it's us being exposed to all his tools as well.

He looks like a muppet in that pic. Yeah hes been in too many movies and is over saturated but fuck it take the money and run. I was irritated by him at first but actually have no problem with him now. Pineapple express had laughs but there was something unpolished about it, compared to the other movies they made it was a few notches below.
I'm a one man soldier.
Rogen isn't funny or engaging on any level in "Pineapple Express", though. James Franco, who I thought was a world-class douche before I saw it, literally saves that movie. His first scene is gold.boogie shoes wrote:He looks like a muppet in that pic. Yeah hes been in too many movies and is over saturated but fuck it take the money and run. true, but you're thinking a little too broad here. by this logic sandler has never carried a movie on his own either, since his whole crew is in every thing ever madePhilaflava wrote:drizzle wrote:i like rudd a lot but i have a sneaking suspicion he can't carry a movie on his own. he needs to be paired up with somebody ala rolemodelsEmployee wrote: Paul Rudd really needs more starring roles.

there's a difference between something like knocked up or FSM where the focus is firmly on one character with a cast of usual suspects lending a hand as opposed to something ala role models, pineapple xpress or superbad where you have several leads contributing equally to one story line.
what i'm saying is that i doubt he can carry a role ala what rogen had in knocked up

the first hour of zack and miri was fine, it comes apart when the romantic thing kicks in but who didn't see that coming from the credits anyway?
