Re: The Horror Movie Thread
Opera was great, but I have serious issues with that film's ending. Might be the first identifiable example of Argento's fall for me. I still enjoy watching his movies even the contemporary stuff, so whatever.

It's violent compared to pretty much any Hitchcock movie. Probably not violent to you if 75% of the movies you watch involve someone's dick being cut off and fed to them.Comedy Quaddafi wrote:It's not a violent movie at all.Tommy Bunz wrote: I really like The Girl Who Knew Too Much. Gutterballs has a scene like that.

I might be wrong about Gutterballs. It might have been a bowling pin.

Violence & Gore
The film is in black and white, so there is no "red" blood shown, and what is shown could be considered minimal.
A mugger snatches a woman's purse; they struggle briefly, and she falls back and hits her head. At least two characters are shown with a knife in the back; there is some blood on the clothes. A character lies dead, there is a wound on the head. Another character is shot and collapses.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

Re: The Horror Movie Thread
It's been quite a while since I've watched it but multiple people getting shot and stabbed isn't violent "at all"?
I probably shouldn't have used the word "very" before violent but it is violent and it is violent compared to every hitchcock movie outside of Psycho, and maybe the Birds.
Mostly, I don't see what your point is outside of trying to be smug.

Re: The Horror Movie Thread
Frenzy?
Anyway there's no graphic violence as we only see the bodies and the rest happens off-screen, not unlike films by Hitchcock. I don't really have a point, but I consider it to be part of an era of more visually restrained rather than more sleazy Italian gialli, or in this case a thriller, as you'd see in Bava's next movie Blood and Black Lace

Re: The Horror Movie Thread
just had a thought, are there any horror movies that go a standard route, but in the end / with the ending, the reveal is that the horrible thing is something historical that actually happened?
not something that is introduced in trailers or the beginning as 'based off true events' etc.
Like a stupid example would be if you had indigenous population in north or south america, told from their perspective, being terrorized by the unknown. then in the end you get some perspective from the foreigners going about their business, or just a reveal to the audience that the movie portrayed x event.

Re: The Horror Movie Thread
^ Time of the Wolf by Michael Haneke had that exact effect on me. It's never spelled out that the story, which is a fictional account of how survivors of an unspecified accident cope, is actually an accurate description of how victims of wars in the real world are forced to live - but it's written thickly between the lines which makes the movie a chilling experience to watch and reflect on. It's not a horror really though and it doesn't point out a specific incident in history.

Yup, already have it pre-ordered. Hopefully it's better than Chandon's last film.

It's no secret that I find Rob Zombie's movies terribly overrated but The Lords of Salem trailer seems to be very promising and suggests that he just might have grown out of that white trash steez bullshit here. Trailer is surprisingly awesome.

And he was a true scholar and a gentleman. Had a long ass chat about horror flicks, especially slasher movies, both agreeing on Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon being a fantastic film.Spartan wrote:Meeting Robert Englund on Sunday. Hopefully he isn't a douche like Savini.

Motherfucking right I'm gonna frame this and put it on the mantlepiece.

This does look cool. I'd like to watch it with different music, though, because The Requiem Mass instantly makes anything better.

Speaking of old school Brit hexploitation horror, I watched Virgin Witch last night. Pretty mediocre.

Nice ^
If they stay away from CGI and follow through on their promises it could be tight.

CQ - It's sacrilege, man.
Tweak - He was alright until I brought up the F13th remake. Apparently, he's a bit of a douche to his fans.
