X-Men: First Class (now with photo)
some details about X-Men First Class, via IGN.com
Up until now, X-Men: First Class has been something of a guessing game for us fanboys. Is it a prequel? A reboot? Who's in it? When is it set? Well, now a bunch of those questions have been answered by none other than producer Bryan Singer.
Singer spoke with AICN about the film, seeking to clarify what exactly is being done with everyone's favorite band of merry mutants. First off, the film is set in the 1960s. JFK is the president, the Civil Rights movement is in full swing, and "there is a spirit of a hopeful future that was prevalent in that time." Charles Xavier and the man who will become Magneto -- Erik Lehnsherr -- meet and dream of a future where man and mutant can live together in peace. And we all know how that works outג¦
Some bullet points follow on the ton of info that Singer has revealed:
--The two leads will be in their late twenties.
--Xavier will not be in his wheelchair, but we will learn how he gets there.
--He'll also still have hair.
--Xavier and Magneto will create the X-Men together.
--This is not based on the comic book called First Class but rather is "a new beginning" for the series.
--Director Matthew Vaughn is "technologically inspired" by the James Bond tech of the '60s.
--The costumes will be more "comic bookish" than in previous films.
--Neither Cyclops nor Marvel Girl will show up, but Cyke's brother Havoc will.
--Kevin Bacon will play Sebastian Shaw and, yes, the Hellfire Club will figure into the mix.
--Filming begins with Xavier at Oxford University.
--The movie will have a much more international feel than previous installments. (The shoot will take place in England and the U.S.) Other locations will include Russia (though they won't actually film there).
--There are other characters in the film who have not been revealed yet.

After seeing what Vaughn did with 'Kick Ass,' I have next to no hope for this being any good.

it makes no sense to change the shit and have no marvel girl or cyclops, but have havok. marvel comic movies change shit, just to change some shit with no good reason for the changeDredScott wrote:i had a slight glimmer of hope when i heard vaughn was directing but hearing that all these random fucks are in it and then cyclops and jean aren't is pretty fucking .

But look at how horribly he handled the characters. Characters are the bread and butter of X-Men films. All the problem with 'The Last Stand' seem like they're about to be tenfold.Sankofa wrote:^I guess we saw two entirely different movies, as my thoughts were that Kick Ass was the best shot action movie I have seen in ages.

Its been mentioned but Havok with no Cyclops makes no sense at all. Why do they make those kind of decisions on movies like this? How does having his younger brother in a prequel do for the story?

Hey, we're Marvel, our comic books consistently sell better than anyone else in the industry and (for better or worse) we basically started the whole comic-adaptation craze that has swept over Hollywood and entire comics industry in the past decade.
What should we do next?
I know, lets take the best franchise in our company's history, the only one which has yielded two really really good (not just entertaining, but actually good) films, and let's re-adapt that series with an entirely new cast of characters played by actors you've never seen before. It'll be kind of like how we revamp the comic every two years. All of our die-hard fanboy followers will become enraged and embittered, but through some gay sense of loyalty they'll continue to purchase our product and we'll pick up a new legion of idiots in the process.

Fuck all thatHarry Hater wrote:Jeez give it a chance, it very well may suck but how many times has a movie been hyped up and cysed up months before its released and turns out to lick balls?
And as far as actors Ive never heard of, I'd rather they casted a no name for the Dark Knight series than Christian Bale.

I think that's Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet's daughter and I think she's playing the character Angel who didnt come into play until about 15 years after Jubilee debuted...they are all over the place with this.procure uno wrote:hoping the asian broad to the left of mystique is NOT jubilee. in the comic, she didnt come into play until well after wolverine's inclusion in the x-men, many decades after the formation of the team.
