If you're gonna nominate Tron Legacy, why not original score and visual effects? Why ONLY sound editing? so bizarre

Since Winter's Bone has no chance of winning, I'm pulling for Social Network. I'd be fine with Russell, Fincher, or the Coens winning best director.

Cysed that Jennifer Lawrence and John Hawkes got nominated. Hawkes doesn't stand a chance though; it's Christian Bale's time.

Funny how Susanne Bier is popular outside of her own country but often mocked inside of it. Guess shes the token woman for cultured Manhatten hipsters to praise, when discussing "foreign" movies about life-stuff.

Hope Black Swan wins as much as possible, best American movie I've seen in years IMO : ) At the same time I think Boxing-movie and Facebook-movie have more award-potential, I hope I'm wrong.

literally not a single thing about the stated assumption is actually true

catherine breillat and claire denis are far more fitting to what you're describing

your little swirls of ignorance rolled into self satisfied smugness are absolutely precious

more stray observations:

I think Andrew Garfield shouldve been nominated for Supporting Actor in Social Network over Mark Ruffalo. The Kids Are All Right should not be nominated for anything ever.

Why the hell did Hailee Steinfeld get nominated for Supporting? She's in True Grit more than Jeff Bridges is. Seems kind of like a slap in the face, or just a case of them honoring Bridges more because he's Jeff Bridges. Just give them both a lead nomination

Can't wait to see what happens if Exit Through The Gift Shop wins. It should. Not saying it will, but it should.

What the hell was Toy Story 3 adapted from? Toy Story 2?

An anime where love dolls are thrown away.

and another thing, I'm kind of blown away that Roger Deakins has never won an oscar. He's not a lock this year either, but he absolutely deserves one

was it really any good at all? it just seemed like a slightly updated version of the brave little toaster except with toy story characters.

She had little chance of being nominated if they put her up for Best Actress and no chance of winning while putting her up for Supporting she has a strong chance of being nominated and a chance of winning.

Other thoughts Glad that Waiting for Superman did not get a nom this doc sucked ass and ignored the reality of American public schools.

Jim, have you ever seen The Cartel? Indie doc from the year before (that WFS pretty much copied and diluted) about the fucked up school systems here in NJ. Infinitely better film.

The Dominican mom from WFS was kinda hawt, though.

I have not seen it and don't know much about it other than it exist. Is it another blame the teachers union film with out mentioning the real problem of bad schools poverity? And do they pretend that all of public schools suck when it is only high poverity schools that suck?

So you're saying having her nominated as a supporting actress was the studio's idea?

Not the Oscars are a bastion of integrity, but you'd think there'd be some sort of criteria that defines lead actor and supporting actor. Having the most screen time in a movie probably means you're a lead actor.

I hope she wins supporting actress regardless. She has a great chance because Leo and Adams will cancel each other out.

:naswtf:

Jeff Bridges might have the largest font on movie posters, but the movie centers around the girl. The Coens are on record that they wanted to be truer to the book and make the girl the center of the film, not Rooster, like in the John Wayne version.

You've already gone into why you don't think The Fighter is that good, but why don't you like The Social Network?

I think they're up there with Winter's Bone, Toy Story 3, and True Grit.

Hope Eisenberg wins best actor. He deserves it.

it's not that i don't like social network, i just don't like it as much as the top 3 or 4 i listed. and overall i wanted more from that movie than a very entertaining biopic of a website. AND honestly i liked ice-enberg a bit more in holy rollers than in social network, i felt like both garfield and timberlake upstaged him in almost every scene they were in. Garfield's character just seemed a lot more interesting and more fleshed out to me , despite obviously being secondary

Yes for the most part I am going off of memory here but the Academy can noimate who they want where they want but in reality the studios promote specific actors/ress for either Best or Supporting and the Academy rarely goes against this. One of the best example of this was Pulp Fiction when Miramax promated Jackson for supporting and Travolta for Lead to have a better chance of one of them winning.
Not the Oscars are a bastion of integrity, but you'd think there'd be some sort of criteria that defines lead actor and supporting actor. Having the most screen time in a movie probably means you're a lead actor.

Again from memory there is no guidelines at all for what makes a lead and what makes a supporting.
I hope she wins supporting actress regardless. She has a great chance because Leo and Adams will cancel each other out.
This is why the promoted her for supporting. If she was up for Lead the first problem is I honestly have no clue which one of the nominees she would replace and second she is not beating Portman this year as all the momentum is for her and for that matter she is not beating out Bening she is just to well respected and no one deserves it more than Williams though she is not going to win.
