agree on shia, they should've went wiht michael pitt - dude would be perfect - dead eyed, mildly inbred looking and actually menacing. and he can actually act too
but otherwise this is my shit. really excited for hillcoat to have long career of awesome gritty neo-westerns

He's an ex addict so maybe he enjoys obsessing over extreme life changes? Completely baseless guess on my part.

Re: Lawless (Dir: John Hillcoat)
This was decent. Started off really really strong when it centered around Hardy's character, but loses a lot of steam when Chia LeBuff starts cutting into screentime. Most of the tension is the result of his character having a "whoopsie" moment. Really violent, and worth it alone to Hardy and Pearce play chaotic-evil sort of characters across from each other. Competent script and good character acting all around. Some tropes bear their head, like the bad boy falling for a preacher's girl, etc. Oldman is under used. Ending was weird and a bit anticlimactic. Jessica Chastain shows her tits for like 18 seconds

Movie definitely needs moar Oldman.
Tom Hardy is my favorite "new" actor. He is killing roles.
Re: Lawless (Dir: John Hillcoat)
he was kind of perfect for this. he's got that wanna be smug prick role down, plus he even kind of looks like Hardy.Truth. wrote:really wish Shia was not in this though

Re: Lawless (Dir: John Hillcoat)
yepyep. i've never had any beef with la beouf, but fifteen minutes into this when guy pearce annihilates the living shit out of him i figured anyone who does hate him should already consider themselves fulfilled. pearce/hardy were toppermost here, dudes are champs. more goldman would have been appreciated, but still loved the shit out of this, as expectedRamen wrote:he was kind of perfect for this. he's got that wanna be smug prick role down, plus he even kind of looks like Hardy.Truth. wrote:really wish Shia was not in this though

Re: Lawless (Dir: John Hillcoat)
Didn't know there was a thread for this movie already - thought it went by underappreciated. Of course this film was released months later in Europe compared to the US, which sucked. Saw this last week and really enjoyed this though. I'm a huge Tom Hardy fan (nh) and as always, he did very well in this. Can't say I was too annoyed by Shia LeBeouf, but I agree that casting Michael Pitt for his role would've been a lot better.
How does this movie rate for you guys in the 'best of the year' debate? Top 10 for me, perhaps top 5. I love bootlegger films/shows.

Watched this the other day, it was good not touching The Proposition or even The Road though imo
