Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Post by Truth. »

will be directed by Alan Taylor http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0851930/

also this news came out today
Mikkelsen in talks for 'Thor 2' villain role
Details of role for 'Casino Royale' thesp still unclear
By Justin Kroll, Marc Graser

Though "The Avengers" continues to dominate the global box office, Marvel is not slowing down on preparations for its future endeavors, as Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to star as one of the villains in Disney and Marvel's "Thor 2."

It is unknown at this time exactly what part he will play, but Tom Hiddleston will still have a big part as antagonist Loki. Marvel declined to comment on the casting.

Most of the cast from the original, including star Chris Hemsworth, are returning, with Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") helming. Don Payne, who co-wrote "Thor," penned the original draft with Robert Rodat doing the most recent polish.

Marvel has skedded "Thor 2" for Nov. 15, 2013, with production expected to start later this summer.

Best known for his role as the villain in "Casino Royale," Mikkelsen's pic "The Hunt" recently bowed at Cannes. He's currently shooting "The Neccessary Death of Charlie Countryman" starring Shia LaBeouf.

Kenneth Branaugh (sp?) not returning worries me a bit.

Marvel has scored with almost all of their in-house flicks...kinda hard to shake the feeling that one of the films coming soon will be a brick.

Portman was criminally underutilized in the first film, I don't really care if she comes back.

This feels a bit rushed. Iron Man 2 was pretty awful, and that film was rushed as well.

Hopefully they have another villain, I'm getting awfully sick of Loki. He's a gigantic pussy, and Thor needs a much more challenging villain.

Agreed BUT, if I may play Marvel's advocate, 'Iron Man 2' was rushed in order to make it a commercial for 'The Avengers,' in hopes a still relatively-risky film two years later would be a hit. I think the box office magic 'Avengers' had will allow for at least somewhat more leeway than the awful 'Iron Man 2' had.

I wasn't much of a reader of Thor's single comics so are there any interesting stories they could use for the sequel? I've noticed with a few of the Marvel movies they borrow plot lines, stories, and references from both the Ultimate and 616 worlds.

I liked Thor a lot more than Cap America, but I've talked to people who felt the opposite way.

You might want to watch "The Incredible Hulk" (the second Hulk movie), that's pretty fun at times. "X-Men: First Class" was alright too.

Don't bother with the Fantastic Four or Daredevil movies.

Supposedly the Director's Cut of Daredevil is actually a pretty decent film. Never got around to braving it a second time though.
I actually like Ang Lee's Hulk better than the Norton one. Bana is a better Hulk in The Avengers than either though.
First two XMen movies were done by Bryan Singer who made the Usual Suspects and they are as good as any comic book movie out there. The 3rd one is pretty average, the Wolverine movie is stupid but fun as hell almost entirely because of Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth. Origins was pretty solid.
Both Thor and Captain America are worth your time.

Think you meant Ruffalo, blud.

I would recommend the brutal Punisher: War Zone and the first two Blade films. Blade Trinity is only worth watching for Jessica Biel looking smoking hot, especially in her shower scene.

Yeah, obviously meant Ruffalo not Bana.
Co-sign Punisher War Zone being tons of fun.

:bunk:

WATCH THEM ALL.

if you are a REAL fucking comic book lover, YOU WATCH THEM ALLLLLLL.

what the fuck you guys talking about, willises?

your next boring Sunday afternoon, WATCH DAREDEVIL.
couple weeks later, WATCH FANTASTIC FOUR, PART 1 AND 2.

Daredevil has Elektra (and Matt Murdock fights her in a playground with kids watching), it has Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin, Colin Farrell as a psychopathic Bullseye, and some ill ass special effects to describe Daredevil's blindness/super senses. Watch it ONCE in your life if you are a real comic book lover. The comic only existed for like 20 fucking years before it became a movie. 1 and a half hours isn't too much to ask, is it?

Same with Fantastic Four. The genesis scene in space alone is worth checking. Dr. Doom has some cool moments. Reed Richards stretching is dope, and I hated Jessica Alba until I saw her competently handle the role of Invisible Girl. Also, Chris Evans is a GREAT Human Torch, in many ways, and the special effects for it were cool. The scene on the bridge is dope. And in the sequel, when they trade powers, it's mad cool, as well as having Silver Surfer up in the shit. FRESH. Don't sleep.

watch The Punisher. watch Sin City. watch fucking The Losers.

hell, unless you think you are fucking Martin Scorsese and are too high brow to watch a decent hero/villain myth mixed with a love story and a bag of cutting-edge special effects, i also suggest you watch 'Ghost Rider'. It's probably the worst comic book movie of all time... but still, there are redeeming moments of visual flair and a few fun cinematic revelations. the second one was shit too, but I saw it.

comic book lovers watch them all.

Thor needs to fight Ymir, those ice giants are what made the first Thor film to me. Or maybe the giant fire demon Surtur.

Definitely peep Punisher: War Zone and The Incredible Hulk. Ang Lee's Hulk had some moments, but I can't whole-heartedly recommend it.

The Wolverine flick was terrible. Avoid at all costs. The first Ghost Rider was bad also. I didn't even see the second one.

X-Men First Class is a sleeper. Very good.

I liked both Hell Boy flicks, but the first one is the best.

Those are just superhero flicks...there are several comic-book based flicks that aren't superhero flicks. MB mentioned The Losers ( which is aaaaight), but I really enjoyed RED.

EDIT: Definitely check out Sin City also.

I actually liked Thor better than Iron Man, so I'm not unfamiliar to unpopular opinions about Marvel movies, but seriously, Wolverine: Origins? I almost left the theater during that debacle.

Honestly I don't remember the Wolverine too well. I know I liked it better than Fantastic Four and Ghostrider, but it's probably worse than I remember. I agree w/ whoever said Sabretooth was the best part of it.

yeah, Hellboy 2 was kind of ill but lacked in story substance. The Golden Army had insane special effects though.

the Wolverine flick was bad but also an interesting experiment in Hollywood disasters. Part of the main reason it was so bad was that the half-done version got leaked, and it fucked up the whole production of the movie. They didn't even end up changing much of it from the leaked version, and it still made like 80 million dollars its first weekend, even though a shitty-ass incomplete draft was out for months before release.

cool story, bro: your friendly neighborhood YOTMB has a SMALL part in 'RED'. I play a cop in the street when Helen Mirren gets out of the Rolls-Royce at the hotel. You can barely see me, but I'm in the background.

the newest Punisher: War Zone movie is FUCKING BRUTAL. on some Rambo shit. the Tom Jane one? guess that's sufficient for what it needs to be... but how Hollywood didn't turn Frank "The Punisher" Castle into a big time action franchise is a comic book/cinema fail. it's a no-brainer.

and I wonder if that live action version of Akira is still being made. I heard Leonardo DiCaprio was going to play Kaneda at some point, and it was going to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Then it changed to F. Gary Gray, and I think he's off it (cause he's making the 'NWA movie' :) so now it's "WTF is happening with the Akira movie, and PLEASE DON'T FUCK IT UP"
