Excellent writer. He writes crime books from the criminal's point of view. His writing is usually straight forward and clear but the subject matter and tone are very dark and twisted. Great stories. Very engaging. And usually less than 200 pages.
One of the darkest and most horrifying books I have ever read. The last 5 or so pages are so haunting and memorable.
Excellent book with so many OH SHIT moments.
Very, very good book. Not enough books or movies about grifting.
Awesome book. Bank robbers. Guns. Villains. Texas.
Bellhop works the night shift at a hotel. Lies. Sex. Crime. Violence.
Small town movie theater owner. Plays a lot of people. Kind of like Yojimbo.
Escaped mental patient befriends criminals. Kidnapping. Lies. Violence. Lots of awesome.
Door to door salesman falls for a girl in a small town. Lies and murder and other awesome stuff ensues. See a pattern?
Kind of a Jim Thompson auto biography. Pretty good. I'd recommend all the above books before this one.
Has anyone read Savage Night? Always wanted to read that one.

Pop. 1280 is the ultimate spiteful revenge book. Everything Nick Corey does fucks somebody up righteous who's crossed him, and the way his narration opens up his malice and madness as the book goes on is fucking masterful. Thompson as a whole is great, but this shit is like the Torah for evil motherfuckers.
