Godzilla reboot

Post by Truth. »

Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will be directing it

test footage trailer shown at comic con
The footage pans across a city that has been utterly destroyed. We hear a voice over a radio talking about the end of the world. It looks like another giant creature's body is in the wreckage. We hear the classic Godzilla scream. From the smoke, we see something enormous. We're following a camera up Godzilla's back, showing his scales. We see his face, but it's almost a silhouette. It looks a LOT like the classic Godzilla design but with a slightly fatter face.

The narration is from Robert Oppenheimer. "We knew the world would not be the same. Few people laughed. Few people cried. Most were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture. The Bhagavad-Git... takes on his multi-armed form" (This is were we see the other, dead creature)

"And says, 'I am become death. Destroyer of worlds." That's where we see Godzilla's face and the logo

That's the narration in the trailer. It's a Robert Oppenheimer quote about the atomic bomb.

Wasn't "Monsters" that movie that guy shot independently and did all the special FX himself? Was it his first feature film? If so that's a hell of a follow-up.

Big fan of all the Godzilla movies as a kid. I will look forward to this regardless.

Yep. He edited the whole thing on a macbook pro IIRC.

Monsters was pretty great for a movie that was shot on the fly and largely improvised. Glad Edwards got the gig.
Can't be any worse than the last american Godzilla movie at least.

the atomic bomb quote suggest the og evil godzilla

the body of another giant creature in the rubble suggest later good godzilla

all signs point to a dark Nolan-esque reboot about a complicated and conflicted godzilla, possibly dealing with latent childhood trauma

Nah can't be Gamera, they don't exist in the same universe. Godzilla was Toho and Gamera was Daiei, pretty sure they're still owned by separate studios....don't think there's ever been any crossover between the two.

Also if you look closely there are at least 6 sets of claws there....I can't think of any of the Godzilla monsters that have 6 limbs....maybe they created a new one?

I hope this results in a Gamera reboot that goes in the complete opposite direction which becomes goofy to the point of flat-out avant-garde absurdity.

I like to imagine all the other monsters are pedophiles and Gamera's Japan's Chris Hansen.

Walt is gonna kill godzilla with Ricin and trick Biolante with an elaborate ruse into raising his kids after he dies. Guest starring Skyler as Gamera, a useless round thing that makes a lot of noise and bumps into shit with no visible effect.
