Oh my fuck. This looks terrible.

I fucking loved this book. Not the greatest writing by any stretch, but a really cool way of navigating around the plot.

I bet there's a dozen writer/producer/director teams could have done this for a fraction of the cost, staying closer to the source material.

I'm looking forward to the next ep of TWD more than I am this.

Wait, I thought Brad Pitt was the reporter/narrator in the book.

If that's the case, why is Brad Pitt running away from zombies?!?!

He was. They decided to film it as more of a Brad Pitt hero zombie killer. So.... not like the book at all.

Also... anyone else concerned those zombies look like those fast, 28 days later zombies... i.e not like the book at all

Should I read this book? I've had it on my to-buy list for a long time but always end up getting something more highly regarded.

Yes, it's very much worth reading. Afterwards, join the multitude who'll be saying "the book is so much better" next summer and you'll no doubt want to smack the shit out of these little punks dressed as zombies next Halloween when they're running up and down the street like Usain fucking Bolt.

i don't see why they are even using the book as source material anymore. It's is obviously nothing like the book.

Man, i would give my left testicle to see an awesome battle of yonkers or an climax centered around the rahj singh square.

Fast fucking zombies...

They're NOT zombies.

It's like making a werewolf flick where the dude changes into a donkey at full moon. It's NOT a fucking werewolf.

So basically the book was about a journalist piecing together dozens of amazing WWZ accounts into a patchwork of human history whereas the movie is going to be 'Man struggles to keep family together during zombie apocalypse while balancing his professional responsibilities as a leader'?

Fuck, if only someone thought to make a weekly tv show out of it first....

good point. yonkers battle, raj sighn, indian boat scene, maybe a couple others are big budget scenes. but my fav stories were female soldier gets stuck in the zombie wilderness, blind japo with sword, russian priest starts executing people, and the reclaiming of the midwest & eastcoast (this is probably the most creative episode ie unlike other zombie stories).

the draw of the book is that it's really specific social commentary. the USA has become decadent, has too much inequality and too many people employed in service industries. the chinese government is xenophobic and not accountable to its citizens. russia has stagnating economic growth, low birth rate, and prevalent atheism. the existential threat forces these and other countries to revitalize themselves. it seems the fans of the book will hate this movie.

the only thing that they seem to have kept from the book was the sheer number of "zombies"

bummer. reading even the first chapter of the book, you could picture it as a perfect movie scene. probably won't even be in the movie.

i guess ill be the first to say it; fuck the book. zombies have moved fast before and it was awesome. let a motherfucker have a take on what the zombie apocalypse will be like. theres nothing heretical going on. zombies climbing each other just to eat some dudes is intense and awesome. i just hope theres enough surviving and fighting and moving stealthily and figuring shit out and not too much dramatic exposition

peace

Yeah... that's cool. But, someone has already HAD a take on it... and written a book, then these guys have made a film... out of the book... which had Zombies in it. Zombie's amble man.. that's their raison d'etre, ambling, and eating... slowly. If they run fast, and growl and fight and shit, they're scary monster things.... Call the film World War Scary Monsters, and it's fine.

To be fair, fast moving zombies aren't entirely a new concept, off the top of my head, they go back to 1980 and way back even further maybe. What sets the alarm bells ringing with the trailer is the fact, Max Brooks' book pays respect to Romero's way of doing zombies - slow, lethargic and everywhere. This film makes them look like they're being poured out of God's giant KFC bucket. Why buy the film rights and completely change the integral mechanic that made the book's fear factor so compelling?

I was planning on reading the book before the movie came out, but I think I might get the audiobook that comes out June 4th.
http://www.amazon.com/World-War-Complet ... +audiobook
Never gone the audiobook route before, but this is as close to a movie you're going to get from the source material.

If this movie wasn't associated with the book in any way, I would be interested in it.
