A recent one for me is Shia LaBeouf in Lawless. Good, solid performances from Hardy, Oldman, Pearce, Chastain and Clarke were almost undone by this cunty little fuck and his annoying face/voice/soul.

Yeah, fully co-sign the Woody Allen thing. One of the major reasons I could never rate Annie Hall that highly.

I have the same issues with Spike Lee and Do The Right Thing (and he comes close to getting in the way of Malcolm X for me too).
Basically anything where a twerp director puts himself in front of the camera when there are much better actors available to play the role.

Appearances from the first four are extremely scarce. The pimp from Dead Presidents gets a good amount of screen time, which is awesome. And Lorenz Tate is obviously a standout.

But otherwise, I don't know.

It's perfectly reasonable for a non-fag (admiral) to have questions as to whether or not Menace II Society would qualify as a good movie.

I saw it for the first time two or three years ago and thought it sucked. Horrible acting and corny, over-the-top melodrama. Might have been good twenty years ago, but by today's standard it just seems goofy and stupid.

Jada Pinkett looked good though, so it has that going for it at least.

Like Boyz N Da Hood, everyone was enamored with it when it came out. We didn't know any better.

Both have aged very poorly. The interrogation between Caine and Bill Duke, and the scene where Caine's grandfather asks if he cares whether or not he lives or dies should be shown in acting classes as examples of what not to do. The pained look on his face when he tries to answer his grandfather is and it is supposed to be the emotional crux of the movie

I think we've talked about this before - both Menace and Dead Presidents look much better now if you consider them as dressed up modern blaxploitation rather than serious dramas. They're too heavy handed for the latter, but just trashy enough to qualify for the former.

Snoop's scene is awesome and Dre is in the movie for five minutes, his contribution being getting punched in the face by Ethan Hawke which retroactively erased all of NWAs street cred.

Yeah, I'm not feeling boianski on that mention. Snoop was actually terrific as a wheelchair-bound crack dealer. Dre was barely noticeable as part of Denzel's crew - it was all about Zed & the serial killer from Con Air.
