that review was certainly written by a faggot
how do you critique a show about a serial killer as too dark

Re: True Detective (HBO)
pretty sweet first episode.
it's the first episode so there was obviously a lot of exposition. the flashback setup slightly annoyed me at first.. but as the story progressed you can tell there will be opportunity to use it effectively in future episodes. mcconaughey speaks in a lot of "profound" brooding monologues.. but the dynamic between him & woody is def going to be entertaining. can't wait for full-fledged alcoholic mcconaughey to emerge. nice to see lester freeman too
won't drop any spoilers but i will say i'm still excited for the rest of the season. definitely closer to twin peaks or hannibal than the wire or breaking bad. i hope they go to some really original/interesting places with the disturbed "savant" detective archetype

I liked it a lot. A little slow but in that good kinda way that doesn't get boring. It feels like a movie.
I'm curious what the long term plan for this show is. Has there been anything saying it's a one and done season or could the stretch it out to a full on series?

I haven't heard much about the format going forward. Given how tough/expensive it would be to maintain both Woody and Matt for multiple seasons, I imagine/hope it may be a new story every season type deal. Maybe the supporting cast sticks around ala American Horror Story. A one-off would be a cool precedent too. Either way, good shit.

Re: True Detective (HBO)
Yeah, entirely different cast each season. It let's them get movie stars who wouldn't sign on long term, publicity around who the new cast will be, and to cake up in the super weak "television move or miniseries" awards categories that American Horror has been living off of.ackbar wrote:each season is supposed to be based on a diff case. i assume that also means diff castblastmaster wrote:Good shit.Blockhead wrote:I liked it a lot. Hooked already.
Re: True Detective (HBO)
thinking back on it now, the episode itself was a little weak. matt and woody just body the fuck out their roles.

Loved the interaction between the leads.
I feel like I would've voiced all of Woody's comments towards McCon.
His demeanor when dude refused to leave the dinner table?

hopefully they wont spoil it by laying on the mood too thick and the case/story is as good as the acting and the direction

Who's the last actor to be on a roll like Conhey is right now?
And he's about to probably kill it in a Nolan flick this year? Lawdy
