Boardwalk Empire season 4

Post by Larry2times »

Back on brih

Heard Jeffrey Wrights been added, this shows got the greatest cast its not even funny. Stephen Graham as Capone could hold down a whole show like

first episode showed promise for the season. giving chalky and richard, as well as capone, more screen time is definitely a trend i'm hoping continues. can jillian just OD and die already? she's the worst. also hoping that margaret is involved very minimally- the fact she wasn't in the first episode was a plus.

Yeah the female characters/family drama b plot shit is so basic, they drag the show down. like it would be top 2 right now if it wasnt for that imo.

I like jillian though despite, Gretchen Mol kills it.

i think the point is to make it a mystery. he's either just completely off the grid and just taking out whoever to make money and be a psycho or there's a grand scheme at play.

offensively simple episode.
OH THANK GOD WE GET TO SEE PURNSLEY'S CUCKHOLD LADY GET STRANGLED, I CERTAINLY NEEDED THAT FOR CLOSURE
among the most lackluster/simple storylines on this show

do you really think that the end of the episode was intended to provide closure? i took it as the show establishing Wright's character, the doctor, much more than making it about Purnsley. i thought it was another solid episode and mainly used to set up what is to come in the season. whenever margaret and jillian aren't involved, the show is MUCH better, imo

Anyone else think Wrights supposed to be some loose combo of all the NOI & its offshoot's founders? The "dr" says Malachi Z York but obviously its too early. eg Fard's past is fairly mysterious & murky. Calling the white devil fuckery now if he ends up being a nonce

After Cannavale's s&m shit I wouldnt be surprised, av club could make a go of an article about the writers associating sex w villainy - Shannon's self flagellation, Dunn and the cuckolding thing etc theres probably other examples.

Wright has been rele, rele good. Whole season has been great so far.

That said, anyone else notice they're catering to the bad fan a little bit more so far this year? (upping the body count rate considerably, going down to a single female main character, etc.)

("Bad Fan" in reference to Nussbaum going for the jugular of a lot of Breaking Bad watchers: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/c ... -call.html)

good fan or not, i don't disagree with finding margaret and jillian to be terrible characters. they're annoying and mostly one-dimensional (Margaret less so than Jillian in terms of one-dimensionality). I have no problem with the pacing of the show being slower than other shows, I just want to watch characters that are interesting and well-rounded. Boardwalk features some of the most intriguing lesser characters in recent memory and I'm enjoying the fact that they're giving characters like Chalky, Capone, Narcese, Van Alden, Pernsly, etc, more screen time. Not sure how I feel about Eli's son getting extra screen time considering it seems (at least at this point) unnecessary, but I'll wait and see.

They've said in interviews that this season is gonna be darker than the previous ones and I'm totally fine with that.

Definitely agreed with this.

Thinking Jillian is one-dimensional is fucking crazy talk, though. She's the only female regular player left in a show with a fuckload of regular players, and it's not like she's some shrinking violet of a female character that prestige drama fans like to complain about in trying to argue against the presence of women having screen time on these types of shows: she's a cutthroat as anyone else on this shit.

Just got caught up yesterday and it has been great so far. Definitely excited to see where they take things this season... I expect that the chatter about the show will pick up after this week's BB finale.

I think they finally realised Jillians the only decent female character, phased out most of the half arsed non gangsta shit and upped the actual gangsta shit. Dunno if its them listening to their critics or what but theyre def playing to their strengths now, it works way better as a sprawling ensemble epic than some nucky's torment character study.

Stephen Graham still needs to be on more though! Shannon and 2face too.

it was a dead alligator i believe. he changed his mind about the business for reasons that are more explicitly explained in last night's episode. real good ep imo. the scenes with eddie and herc as well as with the capone brothers and van alden, as well as with nucky and AR were all very good

not sure exactly but Hoover became head of the bureau of investigation in 1924 and it became known as the FBI in the 1930's.

absolutely outstanding episode. wikipedia on Frank Capone is well worth the read. never would have thought the nephew's storyline would turn out so kick ass. what a great speech by nucky to him.
