I remember thinking the same about Quicksilver in DoFP, so Imma try to withhold judgment on Apocalypse just yet.

Its a 17 minute longer cut, about half of which supposedly focuses on Paquin's Rogue, and also further develops the Beast/Mystique relationship.
I got around to watching this last week, calling it the "Rogue" cut is a bit misleading as it really just adds a lengthy scene towards the end of the movie (8 minutes or so), the rest of the stuff just fills out the story here and there. The Rogue stuff is pretty solid though and overall it is a better version of the movie.

Quicksilver had a cool scene but he still looked like a clown in the last movie.

It felt like the cartoon. I liked it a lot. Probably the weakest of the new trilogy

I like what they were trying to do but it just wasn't good. Building on the previous 2 movies to segue toward the most familiar version of the team, with the animated series as a touchstone, is a cool idea. But they needed to focus on the young team way more, probably cut Magneto entirely, and Apocalypse was wildly underbaked. Even overlooking the goofy suit, the character just feels flat and poorly motivated. This is supposed to be the greatest threat in the Xmen universe, and the dude just mumbles about how people ruined shit and grabs the first 3 random mutants he sees to start a metal thunderstorm and possess Xavier... wtf?

@drizzle
agreed that villain could've been better. and considering dudes ruthlessness and the loyalty he supposedly inspires in his people's according to the iron age era intro felt like the plan could've been much more sinister and dudes willingness to kill/dominate just kind of disappears ie leaving cyclops alive even though he's pushed into a building etc etc.

but the size of the team and the characters getting weak treatment just seems like a massive problem in the franchise as a whole. also the production values can be surprisingly weak ie the subterranean lighting in Germany etc etc.

also yeah agreed. the Xavier possession sequence pretty wack even though it felt mostly ok as far as sequencing the final battle. if you had to have those events happening I think I'd be hard pressed to think up something too much better given the material were working with
