HBO original movies/made for tv movies/miniseries

Post by Larry2times »

Theres a heap, any 'muricans familiar enough to recommend some? Ive seen the Don King, Stalin & Gotti bios and most of the Rebel Highway series but for all I know theres a lot more. The concept of worthwhile made for tv movies with famous actors was foreign to me til recently enough.

^^ is that the sopranos ripoff? i vaguely remember it. the rap-scentric one from around the same time that was about a white rapper and had stringer bell as a label head/a&r was better iirc

It was called Platinum. I was wrong about Stringer, but it did have Sticky Fingaz and apparently Bishop Brigante played the white rapper 2Way

I wonder if it holds up to being as hilariously retarded as I remember it being. Alas, no dvd or anything

Cheers Drizzle, hope someone upped it to yt or something.

The Gotti ones not great, I love Assante and Bill Forsythe but its corny tbh. Funny how typecast teh paisan get, half the Sopranos is in it - Big Pussy plays Ruggiero, Chianese is his consigliere, Paulie Walnuts is some enforcer, Frank Vincents some other lad etc

Anyone see Hemingway & Gellhorn? I read it was allegedly as good as a theatrical movie. After seeing a random 10 minutes wasn't sure if it was worth getting into.

"Autopsy" is great but quite graphic (Real crime, real footage). It's surprisingly on youtube (A few of them)
"The Creshire Murders" is a good watch if you like true crime.
All 3 "Paradise Lost" Docs. Again, great if you like true crime.

I thought this was better than people gave it credit for. Shame it was always just seen as Sopranos rip off (thought to be fair it was), but it had some great acting and real potential. The ending of the mini-series is a little unsatisfying because the creators clearly left a couple things open ended in hopes being picked up for a longer season type deal.

I remember there being some serious (and understandable) backlash about depictions of Hispanics as drug dealers which hurt the show's momentum as well.

Unfortunately, I have not. I bought the series on DVD a good while back. So, the upside is I imagine the DVD set would have to be super cheap at this point.

Autopsy is the fucking goat.

Too bad there's not enough demand to justify a box set release with all 11 episodes, because I've been fiending to revisit those.
