Silicon Valley viewers will be handily familiar with the dick joke from the first season finale. Within the show, the gag—an in-depth mathematical analysis of how long it would take someone to jerk off an entire room of tech nerds—gave protagonist Richard Hendriks the inspiration he needed to make Pied Piper a success. But do the group’s equations really hold up?

As it turns out, the show’s creator, Mike Judge, enlisted some honest-to-God mathematicians at Stanford University to figure out the max “mean jerk rate,” as well as other functions related to “shaft ratios: and “receptiveness to the presenter.” The resulting paper, “Optimal Tip-To-Tip Efficiency: A Model For Male Audience Stimulation” is below, and it’s as thorough and detailed as anything you saw on the show’s whiteboards.

Solid first episode.
My only complaint with this show is that the lead character is such a twat. It would help if he was at least slightly likeable.
If he starts banging Monica I'm going to be visibly umad.
Glad that they decided to have Peter Gregory die in the show too and not try to replace him.

I have mixed feeling about the main character too.

I mean apparently that is how most of these types of dudes act in real life, so I try to accept it, but at the same time, like you said, he isn't going to get that type of chick ever. But at the same time, she can be pretty awkward/autistic. I don't know if Judge wants them to hook up eventually, or if they are just going to be weird together the whole show.

Favorite scene from premiere was when Monica was explaining to them how Peter died, Erlich's facial expressions throughout her explanation were priceless and I couldn't stop laughing.

^worked well imo.

ya i'm not feeling the main dude. he's just not likable. the only weak link in a great ensemble cast. right now i'm thinking the tall assistant dude is the funniest. not a ton of screen time but i spit out my water laughing at dude. bj whittaker or whatever his name is, dude's swag is untouchable. other two getting into juvenile arguments. that new portfolio manager CEO woman is one-note but pretty lols. all the while main dude got me legit cringing.

Caught the latest episode after GOT and ended up marathoning it. Sucks about dude that plays Peter Gregory, but the explanation of his death was fucking lols.

Jared and Erlich always kill it. Love when the chinese intern gets a spot too.
