WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter. We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans. WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans. Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.

Reconciles with WWE, gets inducted into the Hall of Fame, says his final goodbye to all the fans on Raw. And then the next day he's dead? That's either suicide or some poetic ass fatalism.

fuck.

I was Savage when I was 9. Even went to Mass in costume and gave the second reading in a green foam cowboy hat.

"Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if that man did in his life what makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized. By the story tellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever."

Wasn't suicide. He collapsed walking to his car from his hotel with his wife on vacation after taking photos with fans mere moments before.

I think there's something to be said for how he always seemed so troubled, but spent the last few days appearing totally at peace.

I remember first getting a glimpse of his in a small square on the cover of my grandpa's cable television guide. I was 4 or 5 and asked my older cousins if they knew who this cool looking dude was. They showed me wrestling and the rest was history.

One of my earliest memories is being 5 and seeing the Ultimate Warrior and the Undertaker in a bodybag match at the Metrodome in Minnesota. I have such a vivid image of Taker putting Warrior in a bodybag and zipping it up as he lay motionless on the ground, only for the Warrior to do a kip up and then punch through each side of the bag before ripping it in two and pummeling the Taker.

I also was the Warrior for Halloween in his red white and blue attire when I was in 4th grade or so.

Damn...RIP to the Ultimate Warrior. One of my favorite wrestlers when I was growing up. So many legendary matches. His one with Hulk Hogan at Skydome for Wrestlemania was legendary.

My favorite thing Warrior ever did was his tribute to Randy Savage after he died a few years ago. Surprisingly cognoscente and poignant:

Also, just for kicks, here's the Warrior on Arsenio
