Never ever in my whole phila career have I ever expected a post about The Boy From Space and Dark Towers on here.

Back in the day, British children's TV was fucking frightening:

and Donald Pleasance doing scary ass public information films:

Picture Box. No doubt about it. It's pure evil.

Ugh - thread unlocking obscure areas of my mind.

Yeah, Picture Box. The bass would always be too much for the fake wood veneer on your CRT telly to handle so would just distort really badly.

What was the Friday Film Special where one of the kids wore a football cut in half as a hat?

Surely you didn't have two minutes of that theme before Picture Box started did you?

Just watched the first episode of The Changes last night. Pretty much explains why so many British kids who became teenagers in the '80s were so fucked up: they watched shows like this as a kid.

So Nicky from The Changes looks like a young Arlene:

Really want someone to make a loop of all the scenes of people smashing cars in the street from episode 1 of The Changes set to Turn Down For What. Would be the best video ever.

If we're gonna go the classic british tv and their :phila: lookalikes route, this goes without saying:

Dids definitely had some Foggy Dewhurst swag going on in this picture:

Foggy should have traded in his Travis Bickle M-65 for a striped PVC racing jacket.

Funny, cause Dids also gives strong Lofty Sugden from It Ain't Half Hot Mum vibes too.

Widening the net is less restrictive and provides some interesting results.

Arf!

I've just spent the best part of 5 minutes tryna think of a suitable lookalike for Myjah and the best I can come up with is Roly from Eastenders:

Image

Compo def looks like the type of ageing vagabond who Myjah would have sex with in a park bush, imho :gyeah: :gyeah:

Roly or Mrs McClusky from Grange Hill would be appropriate.

907 = Baldrick from Blackadder

CFA looking a bit like da gawd these days.

If you haven't seen it, then you ought to see Pete Walker's The Comeback, for Compo like you've never seen before.

Dying @ Mrs McClusky.

Myjah, I'm sorry for saying you look like Roly the poodle, you just had the same hair as her in the classic "I'm A 5" JPG. XX

The BFI have 2 more DVDs out this month of 2 '60s TV shows that are supposed to be UK analogues to The Twlight Zone or The Outer Limits: Out Of This World and Out Of The Unknown. The former's host was Boris Karloff. I'd never heard of either of them before.

Heard of the Karloff one, but have seen neither of those shows.

BFI are also releasing Nigel Kneale's adaptation of Nineteen Eighty-Four, which I'm excited about.

Worth bigging up the BFI for its Flipside releases, notably Pete Walker's The Big Switch; for being a blu-ray extra that's far more entertaining than the main film, Man of Violence:
