Dune's an odd inclusion here. I love Lynch but its by far the worst movie on here. I just copped the Blu-ray and rewatched it last month actually. The mini-series Dune is better.
Surprising film nerd disclosure: I have never seen Wrath of Khan or any of the original Star Trek movies.
From the list my favorite is probably Robocop, but Raiders and Predator are right up there.

Predator may not be the best movie on the list, but it's easily my favorite and one of the most re-watchable movies of all time.

True. Voted Robocop but could've easily been Predator.

That probably sounded more negative than I intended as I do actually like Lynch's Dune. Its just too big of a story to tell in 2 hours and the special effects haven't dated well.

It was funny to see Jodorowsky get interviewed about Lynch's Dune. His sons were insisting he go to a screening (he didn't want to), but he went and was thrilled when it turned about to be "shit". I don't 100% remember the quote but it was something along those lines.

I enjoyed Dune, but it did feel like a half baked movie that wasn't a true artistic vison it was likely intended to be.

Dune has an incredibly even ratio of success to failure. You get to see some of Lynch's best and worst work, sometimes within the same shot. FWIW I think I prefer it to Lost Highway, although I'm not sure you can make an objective case for that

lost highway lands somewhere in the middle for me. i like it more than inland empire. i would rather re-watch it than eraserhead, the elephant man or straight story.

ha, yeah, loved that. was kind of waiting to see if it'd be brought up all movie long and his giddiness at it's shit was a lovely thing

I almost went with dune but predator takes it for me here almost terminator as well. The thing about dune that I like is just its grandish scope

Page to Screen: Dune (1984) can’t capture the novel’s incalculable brilliance

if you want to watch a space epic about a desert boy living in the shadow of his powerful father who turns out to be the messiah and conquers the evil space empire with implausible emphasis on 1v1 combat, dune is really not the best option.

read the article djjeffresh posted. it argues that what made the novel great cannot be represented easily in a film.

imo the changes needed for dune to succeed as a film -- simplifying the mysticism, streamlining the plot, replacing imaginative characters with visually striking ones -- pretty much turns the film into star wars. the lynch movie sucks, the miniseries sucks, every dune adaptation sucks and always will -- except star wars.

You're putting too much weight into the viability of the source material. The 'changes needed' you're listing are needed for a successful adaptation, but we're not ranking successful adaptations here. Lynch's version fails as an adaptation on several levels but that failure is outweighed by the movie often succeeding on its own terms as spectacle. So the net for the movie itself, even with the dumb shrieking weapons, is still positive. It's not better than Star Wars but despite similarities in basic plot outline, it has its own distinct feel to it that is very enjoyable (even if not always intentionally enjoyable).
