Saw it a few nights ago and thought it was a pretty damn good. Bradley Cooper does a good job in this one, gaining weight and doing his best Texas accent.

It might as well have been that Marky Mark movie from last year. The story really is generic with the trailer being a fuck ton more thought provoking then the actual movie ended up being. Wished they would have addressed all the lies and crazy shit which would have moved this from being generic to being something interesting. Really good performance from Miller.

I mostly liked the war half/action, falls to complete shite whenever he goes home. The attempt at wrapping it up at the end was lazy af

Dude has been caught in approximately all the lies. As Tweak mentioned he told a story about beating up Jesse Ventura it was such a lie that Ventura won a libel suit which is basically next to impossible for a public figure. I forgot about that scene and the few after that until you mentioned it, it was glossed over that quickly. Spoiler Of course he is not jaded at the meaninglessness of war, the taking of life even if its for god and country, or anything deeper then he wants to be kicking in doors instead of overwatch.

I enjoyed it. Definitely a great marketing piece for the military. I've never even heard of the guy til the film came out. Looked him up afterward and found that along with the lies about Ventura and possibly confirmed kills, dude apparently lied about sniping looters during the Katrina fiasco.

Astonishing film-making; Bradley Cooper ripped my fucking guts out, tapdanced all over them, and shot them with a sniper rifle. Equal parts methodical and maniacal; the way he died is still jaw-dropping to me.

This shit sucked. Bradley Cooper is one of the most flat, generic actors out there today. The movie inadvertently made Kyle look like kind of a dick by going so over the top with his dedication to the war. Like I doubt this dude was really as neglectful of his wife and kids as they portray him, but they needed some kind of narrative midway through it besides just killing people. The emphasis on the enemy sniper story was super corny too.

it was a good enough performance. have you seen silver lining playbook or american hustle?

You hate everything or have some random reason why you hate something. and the enemy sniper was the only reason he kept going back the last two times. guess that's corny. smh. this movie isn't great but to say it sucked is a little out there

Popped this in the DVD player the other day, couldn't stand it, turned it off. These wars have inspired generally horrible movies. This one added nothing new... granted, I didn't make it to the second half PTSD stuff.

The movie isn't bad, has the same trappings as past Eastwood flicks but Cooper was great.

They toned a lot of the stuff from the book down to make Kyle look like less of a prick. I definitely recommend the book if you were interested by the story at all.

He's not a terrible actor, but he falls into the Jeremy Renner category of capable but vanilla actors for me. I haven't seen Playbook, but other people have mentioned it when I've made that comment. American Hustle was not my cup of tea, but he was the least of its problems.

You're right that saying it sucks is harsh, but I was just bored by the whole thing and thought it was kinda overwrought. I guess I just prefer hero flicks when they go fully over the top, a la Lone Survivor. This seemed halfway between that and something like The Hurt Locker.

This project was never conceived as a "hero flick" or anything remotely resembling the sort and if Lone Survivor is the kind of war film pumping juice to your nethers, you've got problems that go way deeper. To posit this is like The Hurt Locker is like telling Fargo is like Cocaine Cowboys.
