New TV Shows Premiering This Month (March)

Post by Dan »

Here’s what’s premiering for the month of March.

Secrets and Lies (ABC)
Image

Ben Crawford (Ryan Phillippe) is about to go from Good Samaritan to murder suspect after he discovers the body of his neighbor's young son, Tom Murphy, in the woods. Even as Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) digs for the truth in her investigation and pegs Ben as a “person of interest,” the case unfolds from Ben’s perspective - whether he is guilty or not. In trying to clear his name, it is Ben who peels back the layers of these suburbanites’ lives in their quiet cul de sac, revealing their dirty little deceptions and all-too-crowded closets overflowing with skeletons. No one is above suspicion. Ben’s family’s life, already privately in disarray, is turned upside down as he sets out on a complicated journey to prove his innocence, on ABC’s gripping, explosive new drama, Secrets and Lies, which premieres on Sunday, March 1, with a two-hour special (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET). The ten-episode drama will then air in its regular time period beginning Sunday, March 8 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Ben, a handsome and decent family man who works as a house painter, has his normal share of parenting problems with his teenage daughter, Natalie (Indiana Evans), and smart-as-a-whip 12-year-old daughter, Abby (Belle Shouse), as well as the usual marital struggles, which have lately come to a head. His wife Christy (KaDee Strickland), who he has dated since they were both 19, is a local realtor. She finds her feelings for Ben complicated by his deadly discovery and the relentless police and media attention on their family. Natalie is a typical 16-year-old with an attitude, who is upset by Tom’s death, a little boy she used to babysit. But is she hiding her own indiscretion? And Abby, upset by the state of her family, is deeply concerned but hides her feelings. She is fiercely loyal to her dad.
The unflappable and formidable Detective Cornell is the smartest person in the room – always. But that isn’t to say that she isn’t hiding something behind that slight hint of sadness in her eyes and a deceptive look of disconcerting calm. Once she has a suspect in her crosshairs, she doesn’t let go. Unfortunately for Ben, she has targeted him as Tom’s murderer.
Jess Murphy (Natalie Martinez), the mother of four-year-old Tom who has suffered her own indignations in a broken marriage, is crushed by her son’s death. The one person Ben can unload on is Dave Lindsey (Dan Fogler), his childhood friend. A tenant in the Crawford’s guest house, he lives a cheerfully irresponsible life, but is basically a good guy who is very supportive of Ben and the girls.
Is Ben innocent or guilty? He is fighting to keep his marriage, kids, job and reputation, and he is barely clinging to his sanity. As the investigation progresses, the close knit community starts to come apart at the seams, unraveling until the jaw-dropping conclusion.
Secrets and Lies stars Ryan Phillippe (Damages, The Lincoln Lawyer, Flags of Our Fathers) as Ben Crawford, Juliette Lewis (August Osage County) as Detective Cornell, KaDee Strickland (Private Practice) as Christy Crawford, Natalie Martinez (Under the Dome, CSI: NY) as Jess Murphy, Dan Fogler (The Goldbergs, Hannibal) as Dave Lindsey, Indiana Evans (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening) as Natalie Crawford and Belle Shouse as Abby Crawford. (Premieres March 1st)

Battle Creek (CBS)
Image

Battle Creek stars Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters in a drama about two mismatched law enforcement officers whose polar opposite views of the world and crime-solving breed frustration, disdain, humor and possibly a grudging respect as they clean up the hardscrabble streets of Battle Creek, Mich. Det. Russ Agnew, a good but gruff, hard-boiled detective, has his world upended when strikingly handsome, charismatic Special Agent Milton Chamberlain opens an FBI field office at the police station and chooses Russ to be his partner. Milt’s polished sophistication and access to unlimited state-of-the-art equipment is impressive to his new co-workers in the absurdly underfunded department. As Russ and Milt work long hours together in the economically distressed city of Battle Creek, the question is: will it be Milt’s charm and endless supply of high-end resources or Russ’s old-fashioned cynicism, guile and deception that prove to be the keys to catching the bad guys in his beloved hometown? Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Edward Fordham, Jr. and Aubrey Dollar also star. (Premieres March 1st)

The Last Man on Earth (FOX)
Image

From writer/producer Will Forte (Nebraska, Saturday Night Live) and directors/producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street), The Last Man on Earth is a new single-camera comedy that chronicles the life and adventures of an average guy – and humanity’s last hope – who discovers what life is like when no one is telling you what you can and cannot do.
The year is 2020, and after a deadly virus has swept the planet, only one man is left on earth: Phil Miller (Forte). He used to be just an average guy who loved his family and hated his job. Now, in his RV, Phil searches the country for other survivors. He has traveled to every city, every town and every outpost in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and has found no one. As he returns to his hometown of Tucson, Phil comes to the painful realization that he is almost certainly the last living being on the face of the earth. All he wants is for someone – anyone – to find him in Tucson – preferably a woman.
Be careful what you wish for, Phil… (Premieres March 1st)

CSI: Cyber (CBS)
Image

CSI: Cyber stars Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette in a drama inspired by the advanced technological work of real-life Cyber Psychologist Mary Aiken. Special Agent Avery Ryan heads the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI, a unit at the forefront of solving illegal activities that start in the mind, live online, and play out in the real world. She also knows firsthand how today’s technology allows people to hide in the shadows of the Internet and commit serious crimes of global proportion. Ryan’s supervisor, Assistant Director Stavros Sifter, is a shrewd FBI career insider and the clearing house between FBI Cyber and all other branches of government. Also on the team are FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, a self-proclaimed action junkie who is an expert in battlefield forensics; Daniel Krumitz, an introverted tech genius with a quick wit; Brody Nelson, an expat hacker who chose to work for the FBI over a life of cyber-crime; and Raven Ramierz, a rookie tech who is an expert in social media, cyber trends and international relations. While other agents search for criminals in dark homes and alleys, Ryan and her team search the “dark net,” a place deep in the bowels of the Web where criminals are anonymous, money is untraceable and where everything is for sale with just a keystroke. (Premieres March 4th)

American Crime (ABC)
Image

Following the home invasion murder of Matt Skokie – a war vet – and an assault on his wife Gwen, four suspects are brought into custody: Tony Gutiérrez, an impressionable teen who got in way over his head even under the watchful eye of his dedicated and hard-working father, Alonzo Gutiérrez. Hector Tontz, a young man who has lived life on the fringes of society and has made bad decisions just to survive. Carter Nix and Aubry Taylor, two incredibly lost souls whose addiction to drugs and to one another has become destructive and paralyzing.
Though the suspects fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed... As is true for the victims themselves. As Russ Skokie and Barb Hanlon – divorced and estranged – arrive to both bury their son Matt, and seek a measure of justice for his killing, they discover their son may have been far from an innocent bystander in his own murder.
Told from the points of view of all those involved, this new drama examines preconceptions on faith, family, gender, race, class and other aspects of our social experience with an approach and perspectives historically underserved in media.
American Crime stars Felicity Huffman as Barb Hanlon, Timothy Hutton as Russ Skokie, W. Earl Brown as Tom Carlin, Richard Cabral as Hector Tontz, Caitlin Gerard as Aubry Taylor, Benito Martinez as Alonzo Gutiérrez, Penelope Ann Miller as Eve Carlin, Elvis Nolasco as Carter Nix, Johnny Ortiz as Tony Gutiérrez and guest starring Regina King as Aliyah Shadeed.

I'm giving it a shot based on Vince Gilligan's involvement. Also, I may be the only one, but I actually watched every episode of Franklin and Bash.

Just looking at the picture for One Big Happy and you know it's going to suck. I don't need to read what it's about, I don't care if I'm judging it, that show is lasting 4 episodes like all the other terrible shit that looks like that.

CSI Cyber, again, wasn't this just done?

Some of these others may have potential though.

Shouts for these roundups Dan, couple things I had been looking forward to that would have slipped under the radar if I hadn't seen em here.

LMOE has potential. It was a little slow paced, but I really enjoyed 21/22 and The Lego movie and I'm a fan of Kristen Schaal and Will Forte, so I'm hopeful

I'm really hoping this and Weird Loners both get cancelled really quickly so the rumored Happy Endings reunion actually happens.

Some of these shows sound interesting but there's too much great tv out there right now for me to commit to any of them without waiting for full season reviews.

Battle Creek turned out to be pretty awful imo. Already stopped watching that one.

Last Man on Earth has been great.

I'll peep The Late Late Show with James Corden since i always watch the late late show, but i'm not familiar with dude but he seems like may be a bit too British for me.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was pretty great. Powers released its first 3 episodes already. I watched them all last night. While I love the comic, the series seems to lack the same edge to the dialogue. Some of the costuming is distracting. A lot was changed around from the comic to the show, and the acting is spotty at times except for Johnny Royalle. I'm in for the remaining 7 episodes though because it has moments of greatness.

still not buying a fucking playstation to watch a TV series.

do they really expect people to buy a PS4 just to watch a TV show? that's some crazy shit.

it makes sense with netflix and hulu because it's just $10 for a month to try that shit out, with playstation it's like "give us $300 and then decide"

Yup. Finally caught all of these and really enjoyed it, show really hits its stride after a few episodes.
Great to see Jane Krakowski again, she was always the most underrated part of what made 30 Rock so great. And I really love Carol Kane in this as the crazy landlady.
Also, kinda swooning on Ellie Kemper. Show makes me laugh out loud quite a bit.
