Ex Machina (2015)

Post by ChaMerZ »

Anybody watched this? From what I remember, I mentioned it in passing in the Jupiter Ascending thread but it didn't spur any discussion.

So far it's gotten a lot of great reviews. The metacritic average is sitting at a 77 I believe. Planning on watching it soon (hopefully).

Big fan of Alex Garland. It's been on my watch list for a while. Missed it when it was screening near me.

mixed feelings of curiosity bc this premise reminds me of Asimov's writing and being turned off by Twitch's review. prob wont go out of my way to see it but would download it

Loved this. Had a good feeling the direction it was going but its so well executed that you never know exactly what is real and what isn't.
Beautiful film, should go down as minor modern sci-fi classic.

Watched this today, loved it.
The environment and character interactions reminded me of films like Moon and Solaris.

Thought it was good, but has some major plot holes, and you could see what was going to happen coming from a mile away.

It does raise some very interesting questions about AI, and what would seem to be an inevitability if we achieve it. The dance scene was hilarious, and Isaac was solid as always.

Wish it had a little bit more going on, but it's a solid low budget scifi flick.

6 outta 10

Everything,
I cant help it when certain people love certain subpar television shows that were deservedly cancelled. Check the Mad Max thread for something I love.

Something like this. Very good execution of a 'Post-Asimov 101' sci-fi concept with a few plot points that I think were undermined by stylistic choices. Kinda wish this great cast and direction were applied to either something either a little more involved or maybe more abstracted.

the commentary on gender relations/expectations was a nice addition though, that's probably the most significant thing this movie has to contribute to the general scifi idea cloud

Liked it. Not sure if it will hold up with repeated viewings, though.
