I had a blast with GoTG but it wasn't exceptional. Not sure if I agree that it blows away everything else Marvel has ever done. Maybe if you limit the timespan to the past five years.

Mad Max and Tomorrowland are the only ones I care about. I'll probably end up seeing the marvel ones too, that shit is just unavoidable, but def not as psyched for them as the other 2. NWA will be a good hate/lol watch like that Biggie movie. The rest look like cable fodder at best, most are just crap.

It's a reboot, similar to Star Wars and there's nothing about the movie's premise, direction that makes me think it's going to flop. regardless of how it's acknowledged by critics, it's a definite $$$$ maker for sure.

Who's saying it's gonna flop? The last two JP flick were dogshit and they were huge. This one will be the same wether it's good or not.
As to why it's probably gonna suck, well, Chris Pratt is playing The Raptor Whisperer, it looks like a big storyline is gonna be dedicated to a little kid, and the CG looks spotty at best.

Can you explain how a sequel to the most popular Sci Fi property/trilogy ever made, featuring the original cast, is in any way comparable to a reboot of an existing franchise?

Or how you can consider the new SW flick a "reboot" at all?

not rly reboot when it has the same actors. but it's not a sequel in the same sense that empire strikes back was; they're creating a new story.

i don't super give a shit about consistency between movies/the concept of canon so i'm not trippin over precise definitions of reboot but new SW is somewhere between imo
