Game Of Thrones S6

Post by drizzle »

Wouldn't normally make a new thread just for a casting announcement but it's fucking Ian McShane b

fingers crossed he's Euron Greyjoy (Theon's evil one-eyed pirate uncle) and not Randyl Tarly (Fat Sam's asshole dad)

I think there's maybe one big one that got accidentally got spilled out in the S5 thread but I dont' think anybody cared because the character wasn't even in the season
it was Balon dying, which technically happens before s5 even takes place... tbh I don't even remember if this was ever mentioned in the show or I just thought it was or what
there is one big thing that happens in the book that is likely getting cut out entirely. but otherwise, there's nothing really big left to spoil. some people will go to some places which hasn't happened yet, that's about it

Thank god. Although I have to admit, I've joined the dark side and am almost through book #2 right now.

As someone who watched the show before reading the books, what are your thoughts on how they compare?

Yeah except I'm not going to actually discuss them. Self control, yo.
Whole set of those motherfuckers was like $18 on Amazon one day, couldn't resist.

Also, I'm not even far enough to be tempted anyways.

Not sure if this is just an attempt to bait me into looking like an asshole or a serious question
But I'll just say they're still really fun to read and they give you a much better understanding of the world and what you've already watched. Plus a lot of things are different and/or not covered by the show so they stay interesting. I've been enjoying them immensely.

It was a legit question, and you said exactly what I was looking to hear, I was pretty much wondering if they're still worth reading if you've seen the show. I'll be starting them soon, thanks.

it gets better after the first book, more words spent on plot and character details and less on what they're eating. but you still get an occasional run of 5 pages describing how everybody in the room is dressed and what their sigil is and what song is being played while they're sitting down to lemoncakes

he is but he doesn't have much to do, he just fades in and out of minor moments where his whole role is to be a piece of shit to somebody because he's a badass old school soldier who has no use for fat nerds or girls who want to swordfight. it would basically be a glorified cameo unless they write a bigger role for him

Euron has a much meatier ( :pause: :pause: :pause: ) role, gets to do ill pirate shit and rock an eye patch, etc... He'd have more screen time and will probably be more crucial in the end game since
he has the Valeryan horn

i feel like they wouldn't bring him in for a side role. currently the show is lacking an old dude with gravitas.

When Martin goes off on food tangents, it helps to get through it if you read it as if Action Bronson is rapping it.

ohh shit, this is a very ambiguous and kinda minor 'is it him or not' moment in the book that i guess they're blowing up for fan service
