Evil Genius was dope but feels like they inflated it a bit, like this story could've been told in half the time. Also I keep imagining how good this would play as a Coen-ish type crime dramedy.

Finished Evil Genius this weekend. Felt like they started out really strong with setting everything up, but i felt cheated by just how much was left unanswered when it ended.

They hit the mark as direct to video movies at best. Don’t get me wrong there are some good movies they’ve made but most are just average at best.

Edit:I said at best twice. But you get my drift

Big time. We should get a petition going for this.

started the new Matt Groening cartoon last night and the first ep is not bad, feels similar to Futurama in tone and rhythm of jokes. There were a few 'adult' jokes that felt more like Family Guy but whatever.

First image of Gareth Evans' upcoming Netflix movie, Apostle, starring Dan Stevens.

Image
The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she's kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.
Kind of geeked for this since another religious cult themed project by Evans, Strange Haven, was by far the dopest story featured in V/H/S 2.

American Vandal 2 is awesome, but it's hard to beat the dick-drawing guy from the first season who gave a truly legendary performance.

The Good Cop with Tony Danza and Josh Groban is an absolute delight.

Couldn’t get through Maniac. Might go back. Very annoying.

Almost gave up on Maniac, but I liked Jonah Hill enough to stick with it. I thought it got a lot better in the latter episodes.

Had no idea that chain smoking doc was Kyoko the hot android from Ex Machina.

Watched the entire season of that Norm Macdonald show while I was incredibly hungover on Saturday.

Some were better than others, but overall pretty darn funny.

I love Maniac, 6 eps in and it gets better and better for me, they layer in new story elements and open it to new directions very well. Very heavy PK Dick vibes and I'm enjoying the stylization. Really hoping they can stick the landing, this kind of convoluted windup can end up really disappointing if the reveal isn't that interesting.

Finished Maniac. I really like everyone involved with this, but it felt extemely mastrubatory to me. Like Wes Anderson and Kubrick had a really petulant, pretentious douchebag kid who people hang out with because he has good blow. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I am just old and impatient. Maybe I just kinda feel like “mental health” is a stupid generational pussy thing right now. I’m Probabaly justa jerk. I’ll blame my being “borderline”. Man, I suck. I’m sorry.

I liked the Tony Danza/Josh Groban show about 100 times more. I feel like a Mom.

I watched more of it last night and I'm actually disappointed myself at how it turning away from a PK Dick-like reality bending scifi thriller to something more like a Michel Gondry/Charlie Kaufman relationship movie. It's not necessarily a deal breaker for me and I'm way too deep to bail by now anyway, but my enthusiasm for it definitely died down a bit.

hopefully something we'll all be able to agree on - highly stylized ultraviolence

the clip doesn't really reflect it but festival reviews are saying it's absurdly gory, more than Headshot

So Netflix are dropping two almost certainly awesome films within a week in Oct. I don't like them much as a company but forced to reconsider now. Anyone who throws money at Gareth Evans and gory kung fu deserves respect. Ideally those of us not currently living near a decent film festival should be able to see stuff like that in cinemas, but having the films available for homeviewing after a brief wait certainly beats waiting for years, in some cases, for someone to buy distrib rights.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

Much better. It’s the best second season of the Marvel shows IMO.

Saulnier's Hold The Dark went live today. The reviews are mixed, apparently it's not strong on plotting.
