I think because Joey and Craig directly interacted with each other they are a packaged deal - if one is real the other has to be too... and it is very plausible that Joey is in his head

BUT, Craig can't see Mr Robot when Elliot sees him (at least it seems like that when they are all in the bleachers), so that makes me kinda tip toward him being real on the assumption that the 'fake' characters in his head theoretically should be able to interact with each other.

I'm kinda into this theory, which hit's a middle ground between real and not real. The sanatorium thing feels a little pat, and some of the details are reaching (somebody gotta explain to the writer about living in places with bars on windows and eating at shitty caffeteria-style places),but it works overall. Joey and Craig being real people who are part of Elliot's delusional interpretation of his situation makes good sense.

Good, I'm glad. I feel like Esmail is trying to expand the show's palate and scope and that needs time and a chance to properly grow. Would be a shame if it got cancelled because this season feels different from the last one.

So, shark jump or what? I stayed away from a lot of discussion online because I knew something like this was coming. I just hoped it wasn't this: the obvious thing. Such a conflicting season.

It just takes the "unreliable narrator" thing too far. They had better take this in a good direction and explain all of the holes, or this was a waste of my time.

In the very first episode of this season, Eliot started off by saying he didn't trust us. He was slowly regaining the audience's trust throughout the season, until his big reveal. I thought it was great.

Trust is my issue. Is Tyrell dead? Is Shayla dead? Does this show end in a retard's snow globe? I want to invest in it, but they keep pulling the rug out. One too many times at this point.

There is a lot of season left and Elliot's arc has been the weakest part of the show (possibly on purpose), so I will reserve judgement. This shit just felt cheap to me.

The 4th wall break is what made it for me. Without that it's a little too on the nose and obvious. But they've actually been building to something like this from the start of the show by continuously addressing the audience.

I think everything that they show this season happened. Some details like Rays dog will probably be wobbly but the big points were real.

Tyrell is another story, really not sure about him. I think it will tie in to how Elliot got in jail to begin with.

I think Ray's dog was either a guard dog or his therapy dog.

The sticky point in this logic are the scenes where we see Ray without Elliot, I think there were 2. If Elliot isn't there he can't know they happened and can't 'translate' them to the prison setting. The one where Ray eats alone and talks to his wife is close enough, there's nobody there. But the one where he threatens the previous site admin and the dude's wife is there is really questionable... even if the other admin is just another prisoner, who was the wife?

Of course all this can be covered fairly easily if they maintain that Elliot was purposefully deceiving the audience because he doesn't trust them/us, which is very different from the Mr Robot reveal in S1 because there he doesn't know the truth himself.

^^ I had the thought that maybe the previous site admin was an inmate and Ray, the guard (or warden or whatever), was there while the dude's wife and kids were visiting him, helpless to do anything to help him.

Lots of shit happened this episode, maybe too much happened. They kinda glossed over explaining and showing Elliot's stay in prison. For such a big reveal that he was in prison all this time, there wasn't much payoff. Also, the double cliffhanger of "what did they see?" for both Cisco and Darlene was a bit much. All and all though, the story has moved forward in an exciting way, and the pace is def being picked up...
